Ag. Soc. ends 91 with $1452 loss
Brussels Agricultural Society
directors learned at the annual
meeting Brussels on January 22
that $2,500 had to be taken from
the investments to offset an operat
ing loss of $1,452.81 for 1991.
Treasurer Barb Mutter said the
loss could be attributed in large part
to the fact that no fundraising had

been done. "Last year we made
$1,000 through fundraising, which
is approximately what we had to
dig into the investments for," said
Mrs. Mutter.
As well there was more money
spent on prizes and displays, but
she added it was money well spent
as far as she was concerned.
President Allan Cardiff remarked
on the success of the midway, say
ing the gate receipts were good.
"There were so many favourable
comments we will probably go
with the same midway again this
year," he said.
Homecraft President Lois McCall
said the Ladies' Division was
pleased with the success and the
number of the entries. There were
many new people showing exhibits
this year, which she felt was a good
sign.
The food booth made $1,562.
Betty Cardiff presented Treasurer
Barb Mutter with a gift as she is
giving up the position. Melody
White has been appointed to fill the
vacancy.
A motion was made by John
McIntosh to hold a fair in 1992.
Ralph Watson was unanimously
appointed as auditor.
Jim Smith questioned why the
beef club weren't part of the fair
this year, and it was explained that
there wasn't enough participants.
Betty Johnston agreed that she
would like to see the beef club back
in Brussels but they need to get
more young people interested,
before that will happen.
It was noted that the Brussels
Agricultural Society spring dance
will be held on March 21 at the B.
M. G. Community Centre. The

Jason Gropp, a student at the
University of Windsor, participated
in a track and field meet this past

have tied his personal best in his
event, the highlight for him was to
be watching when pole vaulter
Doug Wood beat the Canadian
record — again.
Doug is a former student of F.E.
Madill and son of Madill's retired
principal Ken Wood.
Jason had the opportunity to
speak briefly with Doug following
the match. Both young men were
coached during their Madill years
by Mr. Bob Campbell.

of sermons on Humbleness, Heav

based around the scripture, 11
Chronicles 7: 14 “If my people who
are called by my name, humble
themselves, and pray and seek my
face, and turn from their wicked
ways, then I will hear from Heaven,
and will forgive their sin and heal
their land.”
Pastor Warner and his wife,
Andrea, joined the Brussels congre-
galion officially by transfer of
membership, during the service.
Phailop and Manivan Larprom
provided special music for the ser
vice.
The Women's group held the
monthly meeting on Tuesday
evening. Yvonne Dettweiler and
Anneke Pardys were in charge of
the meeting. Ladies were asked to
share concerning their particular
gifts or hobbies. A craft session of
making picture frames followed the
sharing, devotions and business.
The Annual Business meeting is
to be held on Tuesday evening of
this week. The grade 7 and 8's have
an activity planned for Friday
evening.

On Monday, January 13 there
was a grade nine information night
at F.E. Madill S.S. for both parents
and students. Teachers from all
subject areas presented a short
summary of their grade nine
course. Also present were the Prin
cipal and Vice Principal. The pur
pose of this evening was to help us
to choose the courses best suited to
us.
The Family Studies group were
involved in “The Kindergarten
Connection” on January 15. On this
day each grade eight student was
responsible for one or two Kinder
gartens. We played games, read
books, and made snacks.

Guards. Carol is at the Brussels
Library comer and Marie is at the
Anglican Church corner. They
work from 8:15 to 9:15 in the
morning and from 3:15 to 4:15 in
the afternoon. We asked Blair
Smith in grade one and Tonya
Pehlke in grade 5 what they
thought of the crossing guards.
Tonya said “I think they are very
nice”. Blair replied “I think it is
good for them to help us.”
On Tuesday, January 21 and
Wednesday, January 22 Janice
Jacklin and Curtis Mutter from
grade 6/7, and Stacy Hahn and
