THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8,1992. l/' In memory Don Blake, Past President of the Brussels-Walton Trailbazers presents a plaque to the family of the late Eldon Thompson, a one-time member of the club, who passed away two years ago of cancer. The club wanted to recognize the dedication of Mr. Thompson during his membership. The plaque will be placed at the clubhouse. With Mr. Blake, Mr. Thompson's wife Kathy and his children, from left: Terry, Charlene and Jason. Mennonites celebrate season At the Christmas Eve service at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship, the fifth Advent candle was lit. All those present had their candle lit, one from another, all originating with the Advent candle represent­ ing Christ. Once a Christian receives the light of Christ in his/her life, that light is to be passed on to others. On Christmas Day about 40 peo­ ple from the Church and the Com­ munity gathered in the Fellowship Hall to celebrate Christ's birth by visiting with others and enjoying a Christmas meal together. A number of Mennonites and community friends gathered for a skating party at the Brussels arena followed by a social time in the Fellowship Hall to celebrate the coming of the new Year. The theme for this year's celebration was “A Dutch New Year's”. Elwin Garland gave the message for the final Sunday Service in 1991. He stressed that this is a time of new beginnings. Linda Campbell was worship leader for this service and Mervin Lichty led the congre­ gational singing. The Winger Fami­ ly ministered in song. The group consisted of Lowell, Lyall, and Laura Winger, and Lynn and Randy Long. The congregation was also favoured with duets by Peta and Carolina Hiller, guests from Alberta, who were visiting with Mark and Elaine Hiller. Pastor Tom Warner began a series of sermons on Humbleness, Heaven, Healing, on January 5. He based his message on II Chronicles 7: 12-22. Elwin Garland was wor­ ship leader for this service. Tillie Lichty spoke to the children on the Brussels topic of Guardian Angels. Several committee meetings are scheduled for the coming week. The Venture Club for Community Children, grade 3-6, will resume again January 9 after a break for the holidays. Legion sponsors hockey team BY SANDRA JOSLING On Saturday, December 14, Branch 218 sponsored the Brussels Pee Wee hockey club in the Legion tournament held in Blyth. The Pee Wees who are coached by Ron Clarkson won their first game by defeating the Lucknow club by a close 2-1 score. Their second and final game was against Ripley. The Brussels club losing 5- 2. The Pee Wees enjoyed the hospi­ tality shown by the host Branch. On Tuesday, January 7 the blind draw mixed darts resumed at 8:30 p.m. The next euchre night is changed to Wednesday, January 8 al 7:45 p.m. Cost is $1.50/person, lunch provided. The next executive meeting for Branch 218 will be Monday, Jan­ uary 13 at 8 p.m. And the next gen­ eral meeting will be Monday, January 20 at 8 p.m. All members are urged to attend.
