North Huron 4-H members win big at Awards Night 4-H members from North Huron were prominent among those haul­ ing off the silverware at the annual Huron County 4-H Awards Night in Clinton on Friday night. Sandee Ryan, R.R.4, Walton took home two of the major awards, winning the Warden's Novice Award for having the high­ est standing on the basis of awards in the county. She got 978 of a pos­ sible 1000 points in the Seaforth Horse Club. She also won the C. S. McNaughton Memorial Award for having the highest points for any 4-H member in the county. The young horse enthusiast also took the John Franken Memorial Trophy for the 4-H member with highest score in horse clubs in the county and the Rodney Van Engen Award for the novice 4-H member with the highest points in horse clubs. The Terpstra brothers of R.R.3, Brussels, wrapped up the Bill Turn­ bull Awards for 4-H swine mem­ bers exhibiting Yorkshire pigs. Richard received the award for having the highest score with a Yorkshire while Jason and Peter tied for second. Jason Terpstra also took the Bergsma Award for exhibiting the Champion 4-H Gilt at the Seaforth Fall Fair. Jamie Thomas, R.R.l, Ethel won the Bank of Montreal award for top first year swine club member while Amy Thomas won the Huron County Pork Producers' Award for the highest score of a swine club member. The Armstrong sisters of R R 2, Auburn won two major dairy awards. Donna Lynn Armstrong won the D & D Glass Trophy for being reserve champion dairy showman at the Seaforth Fair. Lori Armstrong won the Huron Dairy Equipment Award for having the highest score from Huron County in the 4-H Dairy Silver Dollar com­ petition. This week’s trade was stronger on lop quality cattle with other cattle selling on a steady trade. There were 735 steers on offer selling from $73.40 to $79 to the high of $86. Five steers consigned by David Bowles, Brussels averag­ ing 1114 lbs. sold for an average of $76.95 to the high of $79. Forty­ eight steers consigned by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood averag­ ing 1226 lbs. sold for an average of $76.35 to the high of $84.10. Thirty-two steers consigned by Lome Forster, Lucknow averaging 1286 lbs. sold for an average of $75.65 to the high of $86. There were 320 heifers on offer selling from $73.95 to $77 to the high of $77.25. Fourteen heifers consigned by Terry Murray, Clif­ ford averaging 1189 lbs. sold for an average of $74.60 to the high of $75.90. Four heifers consigned by Geo. Paul and Mark Pennington, Mildmay averaging 1205 lbs. sold for an average of $74.45 to the high of $76.76. Four heifers consigned by Greg Hackett, Lucknow averaging 1090 lbs. sold for an average of $74.45 Kevin Campschroer wins twice at Royal Kevin Campschroer, R.R. 1, Blyth was a big winner in the Ontario performance-tested junior barrow show al the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. Each contestant could take up to four pigs but could only win with his or her top two pigs. Kevin took both Grand Champion and Reserve Champion barrow in the competi­ tion, winning the Royal Bank and Ralston Purina awards. Kevin was the only entrant from Huron county in the show this year. His victory means the three times in the last six years the show has been won by a young Huron farmer.
