Blyth Optimists plan toy sale in time for Christmas Remembering Simon Hallahan lays a wreath on behalf of community donors at the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Blyth Memorial Hall on Monday. The annual event began with a parade by Blyth Legion members to the Hall where wreaths were placed on behalf of community groups in remembrance of members of the community who served and gave their lives in two World Wars. Swinging Seniors plan dinner About 30 Swinging Seniors gath­ ered at the Blyth Memorial Hall at noon for their usual pot luck din­ ner. After dinner, president Isabel Craig called the meeting to order and welcomed all and opened the meeting with O Canada with Ella Richmond at the piano. A lively sing-song followed led by Vera People Shirley Wood and John Blok placed first in the Friday night mixed darts competition at Blyth Legion last week. Edythe Giousher and Keith Lapp placed second. Dini Nethery was high lady and Darrell Wood, high man. Bill Bearss won the 50/50 draw. There were five tables at the lost heir card party at Memorial Hal Nov. 6. Anna Snell and Mary Walden had the high scores. Ella Richmond and Harvey Sillib had the low scores. Remembrance sermon theme Greeters at the Blyth United Church on November 10 were John and Vera Hesselwood. Ushers were Leslie and Kristy Caldwell and Vernon and Maridale Bromley. Diane Ferguson led Junior Con­ gregation and Linda Wilson looked after the nursery. Rev. Ramirez opened the service with the Call to Worship. The hymn “God the Omnipotent" was sung. Responsive reading was Psalm 46. The scrip­ ture reading was Jeremiah 6: 1-15 and John 14: 27-33. The hymn “For the Healing of the Nations” was sung. The children's story was “Remembrance Day and the Mean­ ing of the Poppy”. John Ramirez read the poem “In Flanders Field” followed by a minute's silence and prayer. The choral anthem was “Let There Be Peace on Earth” with Phyllis Boak accompanying the choir. Rev. Ramirez' sermon was “The Peace that Christ Gave”. The ser­ vice closed with the hymn “O God of Love, O King of Peace,” bene­ diction and choral response. Badley and Lloyd Walden. Just one October birthday was recorded and everyone sang Happy Birthday to Mary Walden. There were no Octo­ ber anniversaries. The minutes were read and approved and also several reports were given. It was decided to order films through the library and make use of the project or that is here. A com­ mittee was formed to order the films. The president read several pieces of correspondence and then reminded everyone about the Christmas dinner next month, November 27 at 12 noon, catered by the Legion Ladies at a cost of $8.64 (this is tax included). The money is to be in by November 15 to Nora Kelly. After the business was taken care of Isabel turned the meeting over to Games Committee and Euchre and Lost Heir and Crokinole was played. Prizes were awarded to these people and the afternoon drew to a close about 4 p.m. NOTICE BLYTH-HULLETT RATEPAYERS Delivery of scrap metal and tires will not be accepted at Blyth-Hullett Landfill Site on Wednesdays. Please ensure you have an 'Identification Card' allowing entry at the site. Replacement or new cards can be obtained through your Municipal Office. The Committee have instructed the Landfill Attendant to ask for Identification Cards to allow entry and use of the site. Scrap metal and tires will be accepted only on Saturdays. Tires will be accepted only if delivered by a Blyth or Hullett Ratepayer. Blyth-Hullett Landfill Site Committee The Blyth and District Optimist Club are holding their second annu­ al toy sale, on December 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. Funds raised by the effort, will be going to support the youth of the community in various ways. While many new and used toys have been donated for the sale, the club is still in need of more, so would be grate­ ful for any donations.
