Thankoffering Ser-, vice was held in Brussels United Church Sunday evening, October 20 with guests from Bluevale, Bel­ grave, Wingham and local church­ es. Mrs. Isabel Wheeler welcomed the guests and opened with the call to worship. The hymn “Blest Be the Tie that Binds” was sung. The scripture was read by Nelva Scott, followed by the prayer by Luella Mitchell. The hymn “Come ye thankful people come”. A reading was given by Meiva. An anthem was sung by the choir. Joyce Jack- lin and Betty Campbell sang a duet. Betty Graber gave the introduction to guest speaker, Nancy Corrigan from Bluevale, leader of Christian Development. She chose “The Decade of Women,” the topic for 1992. Information was given out. Gertie Kellington thanked Nancy. Luella gave the offering prayer. The hymn “Abide with Me” was sung. Following the benediction a social time was held in the base­ ment. THANK YOU! Brussels Figure Skating Club would like to thank the following for their generous donations to SKATE-A-THON ’91 Skaters in the Brussels Skate-a-thon Saturday take a break to refuel with a little hot chocolate. Among the skaters taking part were (left to right) Cassie Fischer, Jenna Fischer, Chad Fischer and Marc Fischer. Proceeds from the skate-a-thon go to the Brussels Figure Skating Club. UCW holds Remembrance Day meeting The November meeting of the Brussels U.C.W. of the Brussels U.C.W. was held in the Church Parlour with 15 ladies present. The welcome was given by President Gertie Kellington followed by poem “A Soldier's Cry” and “How Poppies started to Grow”. The trea­ surer's and secretary's reports were given. The hot luncheon and home­ made bake sale will beheld Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Postage stamps were sent to Bible Society in Toronto. Read­ ing glasses were given to the Lions Club. A special offering from former U.C.W. members was received and given to M and S funds. All reports from different officers were received and election of officers for 1992 was held. The Church Calen­ dars for 1992 are ordered. Worship was led by Laura Bar- People Mr. and Mrs. Mel Jacklin have returned home from a trip to Nova Scotia. While there they stayed for two weeks with Murray and Joan Jack­ lin, who are stationed on the mili­ tary base at Cornwallis. Murray is the youngest son of Mr. Jacklin. During their stay they experienced some of Hurricane Grace's fury. Cornwallis is a three hour drive from Halifax and the day they left home it snowed all the way and there: were very strong winds. The waves on the Atlantic and the Ocean and the Bay of Fundy reached heights of 50 feet at times. Mrs. Edna Pearson, Mrs. Ralph Pearson, Mr. Hugh Pearson and Mr and Mrs. Ken Fyfe of Burlington were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Gibson, Lon­ don, on Sunday, November 10. On November 5, the Majestic Women's Institute sponsored a card party with seven tables being played. Travelling prize went to Bill Craig; men's high hand, Albert Quipp; ladies' high, Adah Smith; lucky table, Garner Nicholson, Verna Tunney, June Jacklin and Marjorie Ritchie; goose eggs, Isabel Craig and Mel Jacklin. The next party will be held on December 3. bour and Sarah Stephenson. A poem, “Late November” was given by Sarah. The hymn, “Be Still My Soul” was sung. Readings were given by Laura on “Harvest, 50 Years Ago”. “Harvest Home”. Sarah read from 140th Psalm and followed by prayer. The reading “Hero, name we never name” and “My Father lies with Poppies” were given by Laura. The hymn “O God of Love, O Power of Peace” was sung. Sarah gave a prayer for closing. The December program will be led by Betty Campbell and Luella Mitchell. The pot luck sup­ per will be headed by Isobel Wheeler, Dorothy Steffler, Audrey Cardiff, and Joan Bernard.
