The volunteers hope to raise money to reduce the $447,000 remaining from the Festival's $2.2 million expansion program. Festival launches fundraising blitz The Blyth Festival officially launched its "Catch the Spirit Com­ munities Campaign" this past week with a kick-off meeting of area can­ vassers at the Blyth Inn. Catch the Spirit is a naming opportunity campaign whereby lhe donors can choose io have their name on one of the many parts of lhe new facilities recently complet­ ed by the festival's Board of Direc­ tors. The total goal of Catch lhe Spirit is $447,000 representing lhe final phase of a$2.2 million cam­ paign. Already over $120,000 has been raised, led by three major area donors as well as past and present board members and staff. A corpo­ rate team entertained at a gala reception in Toronto last week, introducing their guests to lhe festi­ val's critically acclaimed produc­ tion of The Slone Angel by James United Way under way Continued from page 1 among lhe companies donating start-up money for lhe initial cam­ paign. For Bill Thompson, unanimously elected chairman of lhe Huron United Way Board of directors, the most attractive aspect of a united appeal is lhe fact all money collect­ ed within a campaign's boundaries is spent in that area. Mr. Thomp­ son, a former senior vice-president of Standard Tube now living in Huron Woods, was an active sup­ porter of the United Way during his 22 years in Woodstock. Nearer to home, teams of volun­ teers are preparing to visit "Blyth Festival lovers" in the various com­ munities of the area. The teams are being organized by Board Member. Marie McGavin and Hensail area resident Joanne Rowcliffe. “I am very pleased that so many people have agreed to Catch the Spirit as a volunteer canvasser” enthused Marie at lhe kick-off meeting. The search for an elderly Blyth man ended when he was discovered draped over the guard rail of Hanna Bridge on Highway 4 at the north end of Wingham. According to a spokesperson from the Wingham OPP, 84-ycar- old Jack McGee of 400 Gypsy Lane was reported missing al 10:30 p.m. on October 8, by his neigh­ bour Jane Bolk. A community search was con­ ducted by lhe Blyth volunteer fire department, OPP officers from Wingham and Goderich detach­ ments, as well as lhe canine unit from District Headquarters in Mt. Forest. The search continued until 3 a.m., Wednesday, the spokesperson said, and at 3:30 police were noti­ fied that Mr. McGee had been located at the Wingham bridge. He had, police said, apparently fallen into the river and was suffering from hypothermia. Blyth Lillian Leatherland and Alice Buchanan had the high scores at the Oct. 7 euchre party at Blyth Memo­ rial Hall. There were 10 tables in play. Margaret Nesbit and Nancy Slater had lhe low scores. Lois Haines and Ted Fothergill had the most lone hands. Jane Giousher won the special prize. There will be a euchre party every Monday night at 8 p.m. Visitors at the home of Jill and Keith Roulston on the weekend included Jennifer Roulston, home from University of Waterloo for the weekend. Visiting for Sunday Thanksgiv­ ing dinner was Mamie Roulston of Lucknow. Bayfield. Donors will be able to make their pledges over five years and choose from a number of naming opportu­ nities. Organizers hope to raise over $150,000 in this part of the Catch the Spirit campaign. Mr. McGee was taken by police to Wingham and District Hospital for treatment.
