Brussels Senior Squirt Girls soft- ball team ended a very successful season Sept. 7 at a tournament in Winthrop, falling just short of a championship. The team compiled a record of eight wins, one loss and one lie during the season, ending up in top spot in their league and earning the invitation to the Winthrop tourna ment. At the tournament the team easily defeated Atwood 12-8 in their first game. Later, however, they were eliminated by Belmore to bring their excellent season to a disap pointing end. Environmentalists Start Here Bulls gear up for season opener It's down to business for the Brussels Bulls this weekend. The Bulls will charge into Goderich on Friday night to take on the Sailors in their opening contest of the Western Junior C schedule. Game time Friday night in Goderich is at 8:30. The Bulls wrapped up their exhi bition campaign on a winning note, taking care of the New Hamburg spirit 83's 5-2. Rookie winger Ted Sills led the attack with two goals, 16 seconds apart in the first period. The Seaforth Junior D graduate also added an assist. Second-year man Sam Kulafofski continued his torrid scoring pace, finding the back of the net twice. Corey McKee had the other Bulls goal. Twenty-two players have been signed for the 1991-92 season, including 11 returnees from last year's squad. Eleven rookies will round out the line-up. Coach Scott Pettigrew says "We have four real ly bright young rookies that will be able to contribute but we also have picked up several players from Junior "D" teams and they will be able to fit right in. Jamie Hislop and Jamie Scott will be playing with veteran Sam Kulafofski and those three played together in "D" and are looking good." A big sur prise has been the play of Trevor Fortune in goal. "He did not play last year and I thought it would take him a while to find his rhythm but he has gone four periods with out allowing a goal." Fortune played Junior "C" in Goderich two years ago. Back for his overage year will be Corey McKee of Belgrave. Coach Pettigrew says, "He can play both forward or defence and has always provided offence. When he comes to play he is a force to be reckoned with." The Bulls other overage player this season is goalie Jeff Roy. Pettigrew adds, "Another vet eran returning is left winger Greg McNevan of Harriston. He has been able to work out his schooling so he can fit in hockey and his return gives us the depth we were looking for." The Bulls finished the regular season in second spot behind the Hanover Barons after leading the way much of the year. Coach Petti grew says "We are a lot younger team this year so I don't expect to get off to as quick a start as last season but I'm confident there will be steady improvement and we will be in the hunt come January." The Bulls will also be in action on Sunday when they travel to Orangeville for a 5:30 start.
