On Sunday, October 6 the Mait land Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) will host the annual Fall Colour Tour at Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area is familiar to many children in the Maitland watershed as the site of the Wawanosh Nature Centre. The Fall Colour Tour features a variety of relaxing activities suit able for the whole family. Guided walks, lead by MVCA staff, will be available throughout the afternoon. Visitors are also welcome to pick up a map al the Nature Centre and explore the trails on their own. Hikers will notice that the trails at Wawanosh Valley have been improved over the last year. New boardwalking has been installed and a larger wheelchair accessible platform has been constructed in the marsh area. If you're looking for a less stren uous way to view the fall colours, wagon rides will be available from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The wagon rides will be approximately 20 min utes in length and MVCA staff will be aboard to answer any questions you might have. The great summer weather has helped to create stunning leaf colours. In addition, a variety of late wildflowers remain in bloom and the fall bird migration is under way. The meadows and forests at Wawanosh are awash with colours and sounds, making it well worth a visit. This year the Fall Colour Tour has special significance as the MVCA is in the midst of 40th anniversary celebrations. During the Fall Colour Tour a special MVCA anniversary display will be on view in the Nature Centre along with a variety of conservation edu cation displays. Nature crafts, books and games will also be set out for children to explore. To cele brate the MVCA anniversary free hot apple cider and birthday cake will be served. Visitors are asked to bring a mug for their cider. The Nature Centre is wheelchair acces sible. Admission to the Fall Colour Tour is free and everyone is wel come.
