Rutabaga committee plans dance The Blyth Rutabaga Committee held their third meeting Wednesday at the Blyth Legion hall with 10 present. The arrangements for a Suitcase Dance for November 1 were final­ ized. The Suitcase Dance is to be held at the Blyth and District Com­ munity Centre. It was also con­ firmed that the prize would be a weekend for two at the Valhalla Inn in Kitchener. The limousine service from Clinton was booked to take the lucky people from the dance to Kitchener and return to pick them up on Sunday. It was also discussed that some spending money should be provided for this trip and a sum of $200 was approved by the com­ mittee. As the prize is for the week­ end of the dance it was also stated that the person winning the prize would have to be in attendance to accept the prize as the limo would Blyth man drowns in Lake Huron be scheduled to leave at 11 p.m. from the dance. Bruce Papple confirmed that the Country Companions were booked to play at the dance. Bev Elliott and Elaine Scrimgeour also reported that they have received $425 in gift certificates and merchandise from the local merchants for additional prizes for the dance. Bev also con­ firmed that the tickets are in the process of being printed at Blyth Printing and should be ready to hand out at the next meeting. N0M 1H0 PHONE 523-4894 THiNK FORESTS BACK IN BUSINESS The body of Timothy David Bearss of Midland, and formerly of Blyth, was found in Lake Huron near St. Joseph Tuesday, Sept. 25. Exeter Provincial Police said the body was discovered by a St. Joseph resident, at 3 p.m. floating about 1000 feet off shore about a quarter mile north of where Mr. Bearss had last been seen Sept. 19. Police said the cause of death was drowning. Police, using search and rescue aircraft from Trenton, the Coast Guard patrol vessel Cape Hurd from Goderich and two smaller boats had been searching for Mr. Bearss after the 29-year-old was seen diving into Lake Huron from a small rowboat two-thirds of a mile offshore near St. Joseph. Over the next few days police also brought in divers in an attempt to locate Mr. Bearss body after they were sure he could not have sur­ vived. Mr. Bearss was the son of William and Bonnie Bearss, R.R.l, Auburn and is survived by his wife, the former Lori Rau and one son, Brandon Bearss. The funeral ser­ vice was held Saturday, Sept. 28 from the Tasker Chapel of the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes, Blyth. A list of activities that could be scheduled at the 1992 Rutabaga Festival was handed out and will be discussed at the next meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for Octo­ ber 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Blyth Legion Hall and any interested per­ son wishing to attend is welcome to attend.
