Blyth Decorating upsets Brussels Huron County Fastball playoff action started on Sunday, August 18, with the Brussels Tigers hosting Blyth Decorating. Brussels Tigers who finished the season with a much better record started the game with strong I hitting, but left the bases loaded in both the first and second innings and failed to score. The Tigers then scored twice in the third, only to have Blyth take the lead in the fourth when Jason Balser hit a triple. Brussels tied the game in their half of the fourth and then took the lead by one in the fifth. The Decorators battled back to tie the game at five in the top of the seventh, sending the game in to extra innings. Blyth then scored three runs in the eighth to take an 8 - 5 lead. Brussels failed to score as they left two more runners on in the bottom of the eighth. Blyth, with strong pitching by Warren Moore, who had 12 strike outs and allowed only six hits, took a 1-0 series lead. The next night the series returned to Blyth and Blyth took advantage of the first inning and jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Brian Miller drove home three runs with his triple and Belgrave pre-mites win championship Ken Marks' Belgrave pre-mite team capped an incredibly success­ ful season by winning the A cham­ pionship at the year-end Pre-mite ball tournament in Brussels Satur­ day. The team went undefeated in both regular league play and the playoff tournament. Brussels got one in the second and one in the fifth while Blyth scored one more in the fourth. Blyth Decorating got excellent pitching in the first five innings from Bruce Bromley who allowed only two hits and Warren Moore who had no hits and two strike outs in two innings. Blyth Decorating will now go on to face the Seaforth Bears, Monday August 26 in Seaforth at 7:30, , then back to Blyth Wednesday at 7:30. Belgrave had fallen behind Aug. 20 in Fordwich when they managed to score in all but one inning while Fordwich scored in only three of the six innings, but Fordwich scored four times in each of those innings for a 12-7 win. David McBumey scored in the first inning for Belgrave but Ford­ wich came right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Belgrave kept chipping away at the lead while Jamie McCallum silenced the Fordwich bats for the next three innings. In the second, Kevin Campbell and Wayne Fenton scored for Belgrave while in the third, David McBumey scored to tie the score. Wayne Fenton gave Belgrave the lead in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Belgrave widened the lead as Justin Camp­ bell and David McBumey scored. In the bottom of the fifth, howev­ er, Fordwich scored four more runs, then, after blanking Belgrave in the top of the sixth, scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 12-7 win. Fordwich tried another big come­ back in the Thursday game but Bel­ grave had built up too big a lead early in the game. Jamie McCallum silenced the Fordwich bats in the first two innings as Belgrave took a 3-0 lead. David McBurney blasted a first inning home run and Justin Camp­ bell also scored to get Belgrave off to a fast start. In the second inning Jamie McCallum helped his own cause when he scored. Fordwich got two runs back in the top of the third but Belgrave replied with three runs in their half of the inning as Adam Gamiss and Justin Campbell scored and David McBumey hit his second home run.
