Since Feb. 1979 Brussels Leglen has sponsored a Cadet Corps. The 2967 Brussels Army Cadet
Corps was formed with Captain Rose Marie Vandenberg aa Commanding Officer. Her compliment of
officers Included Civil Instructor Elaine Nichol aa Administration Officer; Second Lieutenant Kang
Yoon aa Training Officer and Second Lieutenant Carl C. Grabar aa Supply Officer.
Cadets are trained In Drill, Map and Compass, Outdoor Living, Range Practice, Weaponry, First Aid,
Water Safety, Skiing, Mountain Climbing and other sports.
All the Instructors are trained by Canadian Forces, Instructors on Military Basse. Cadets have
welcomed girls into the Corps since 1975. Giris work right along aide with boys and ail do an
excellent job.
The aims of the Cadet movement are: to develop In youth the attributes of good citizenship and
leadership; to promote physical fitness and to stimulate the interest of youth in ths Sea, Land
and/or Air elements of the Canadian Forces.
Young people between the age of 12 and 19 are eligible to join. Ranke in Cadets are aa follows:
Cadet, Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Warrant Officer, Master Warrant Officer, and Chief
Warrant Officer.

Mr. Elliott, s veteran of the First World War, joined the Mount Forest Caned an Lagion in 1928 and
when the Brussels Legion was formed In 1931, he became a charter member. Ha obtained hie life
membership In 1966.
He hss boon awsrded his 25th, 35th and 45th year pins and this year the 50th year pin was
presented by Glen Bridge, president of ths Brussels Legion branch. He was also presented with a
50 year medal by Clare Wai of the Ontario Provincial Command of the Royal Canadan Legion.
He la tiw only surviving charter member of Canadan Legion membership.
