Belgrave Squirts sweep playoffs Belgrave Squirts swept their best-of-lhree Tri-counly North Division playoff series from Bel­ more last week with two lopsided victories. Tuesday, Aug. 13 the Belgrave team fell behind early but rallied for a 20-9 victory. After Jamie McCallum and Kevin Campbell scored for Bel­ grave in the first inning, Belmore scored three times in the bottom of the inning to take its only lead of the game. Belgrave tied the score when David McBumey scored in the sec­ ond, then took the lead in the third as Justin Campbell, Robbie McGee and Jeremy Campbell scored. Each team scored two in the fourth as Michael McBumey and Wayne Fenton crossed the plate for Belgrave. Robbie McGee's home- run in the fifth powered Belgrave to a six-run inning. Also scoring were Justin Campbell, Jeremy Campbell, Juveniles scoreless during playoff games The Brussels Juvenile Barons failed to score a run during Group Tournament playoff action held this past weekend ending their 1991 ball season. Saturday morning, they fell to the Monkton Juniors by a 7-0 score. Monkton pitcher Jeff Smith allowed only Greg Wheeler to reach base and helped by a double­ play faced the minimum number of batters in a game for the win. Saturday afternoon Wroxeter put the finishing touch on the Juveniles' season with a 4-0 win. Again, pitching shutdown the Barons attack as Royals' pitcher Darryl Wheeler faced three batters over the minimum. Rolf, David McBumey and Tom Pfeiffer. Belmore replied with four runs in the bottom the the inning. Belgrave scored six more times in the top of the sixth to put the game away. Wayne Fenton, Michael Marks, Jamie McCallum, Justin Campbell, Robbie McGee and Jeremy Campbell scored. Jeremy Campbell and Jamie McCallum kept Belmore in check most of the night with their pitch­ ing. Sunday, Jamie McCallum was even more in control as he held Belmore to two runs and the Bel­ grave bats slugged out 21 runs to complete the scries sweep. Belgrave left no doubt about the outcome of the game when they pushed across seven runs in the bottom of the first, after holding Belmore scoreless in the top of the inning. Justin Campbell, Jamie McCallum, Kevin Campbell, Jere­ my Campbell, Rolf, David McBur- For all coaches who have tried desperately to gel their team to play nine solid innings of baseball it should be noted that if the Juveniles could have eliminated one inning of play from each of their games their year end record of 7 wins - 17 losses would have improved to 10-10-4, including a 9-4-3 group record. Belmore failed to score again in the third and Belgrave scored seven more runs. Tom Pfeiffer, Michael McBumey, Michael Marks, Michael Sanders, Robbie McGee, Justin Campbell and Jamie McCal­ lum scored. Belmore finally got on the board in the fifth with a single run but Belgrave scored four times in the bottom of the inning. Rolf, David McBurney, Tom Pfeiffer and Michael McBumey scored. Belmore managed one more run in the top of the fifth for the final score of 21-2. School staff will be pleased to assist you with registration details. Joan Van den Broeck ^Chair Sports Lawn bowling winners The Brussels Lawn Bowling Club held its local tournament. The ladies bowled for the Jack Yuill trophy and the men for the Jim Mair trophy. The skips drew names for their partners and the winners for the Jack Yuill trophy were Marj Coultes and Eleanor Hemingway with three wins 40 and plus of two. Second was Laura Johnston and Scott Raven (playing as a lady). Third was Doris Michie and Betty McDonald. Consolation went to Dorothy Franklin and Isobel Gib- In the men's division playing for the JinrMair trophy the winners were Pat Rowland and Ross Tur- vey, three wins 32 plus one. Second went to George Michie and George Inglis. Third to Jim Coultes and Peter Tucker. Fourth went to Mur­ ray Lowe and Nelson Slcightholm and Consolation to Gord Bosman and John Raven. This tournament started al 4 p.m. to avoid the heal of the day but members almost got caught in the rain. Il was not enough to wet your shirt and the rest of the evening was perfect. A pot luck meal was enjoyed after the first game.
