Sports Blyth Mosquitoes sting Goderich Just fair The third base coach for Zulu’s Crew watches carefully as a ball hit by one of his players skips just inside the bag during the mixed slowpitch tournament in Blyth Saturday. Krista Lawrie of the Radford Auto team makes a vain attempt to get to the ball. Many teams from Blyth along with teams from around the county took part in the tournament. On August 1 the Blyth Mosquitoes went to Goderich to take on the Goderich A team. This again was a very even match until Blyth finally got on the scoreboard with a few minutes left in the first half with some nice footwork as Michael Ansley passed over to Michael Courtney who put Blyth up by one. Blyth played very well but with a few helpful hints at Halftime. Blyth came out stronger. Michael Court­ ney again came up with a goal as Michael Ansley and April Van Amersfoort made a couple of nice short passes to set him up. The third goal was set up by Shane Burkholder over to Michael Ansley and Michael Courtney get­ ting his hat-trick of the game. Courtney with his fourth of the night gave Blyth a handsome lead Michael Ansley setting him up again. Cappy Onn finished Blyth's scoring for the game as Blyth got a penalty shot. Cappy took a good hard shot to beat the goalie and put it in the bottom left hand comer. The Blyth team played a very good game and ended up playing a .500 season. The Blyth Mosquitoes and Atoms have a year end tournament in Goderich, August 10 with the Atoms playing their first game at 9 a.m. and the Mosquitoes first game at 10 a.m. Fans are always wel­ come and soccer proves to be excit­ ing entertainment. Juveniles end season Friday night in Walton the Brus­ sels Juvenile Barons ended their regular season schedule the same way they started it; with a loss to the Wroxeter Royals, this time by a 13-7 score. The Barons finished the year with a 6 win - 10 loss record and now prepare for their group playoff tournament to be held in Wroxeter August 17. Brian Alexander reached base on all five attempts in a game that saw Wroxeter score five runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach. The Barons opened Saturday's Tournament action in Brussels with a 4-2 loss to Blyth Soundproof. Andrew McCutcheon took the loss despite striking out twelve batters. Sunday morning, the Belmore Steelhawks scored four runs on two hits in the first inning and added four more in the fourth inning to mercy the Barons 9-1. Tuesday night the Barons travel to Chepstow for game one of their WOAA Juvenile playoff series. Game two is scheduled for Brussels Friday night at 9 p.m. Gowanstown trounces Belgrave Squirts The visiting Gowanstown Squirts trounced the Belgrave team 16-2 during a game played on August 1. Michael McBurney scored the first run for the home team during the first inning, but Gowanstown got off to an early lead bringing home four runs. The second inning was a tough one for the Belgrave team, with six runs scored by Gowanstown, widening the gap even further. Belgrave was shut out the next two innings as well, while the visi­ tors gained another three runs in the third and two in the fourth. The home team's second run was scored in the fifth inning when Jeremy Campbell crossed the plate. One more run was scored by the Gowanstown team giving them a 14 run victory.
