Couple weds at CFB London RICHMOND - SMITH The marriage of Nicole Rich­ mond and Douglas Smith took place on July 20, 1991 at CFB Lon­ don. Padre Charles Mitchell offici­ ated. Nicole is the daughter of Keith and Olwen Richmond, Bly th. Doug is the son of Gerald and Sharon Campbell of Orleans, Ontario. The maid of honour was Leah Rich­ mond, Blyth, sister of the bride and the bridesmaid was Mary Pfeiffer, Petawawa, friend of the bride. The best man was Wayne Pfeif­ fer from CFB Petawawa, friend of the groom. The usher was Aaren Briggs from CFB London, friend of the groom. A small reception was held at the home of the bride and groom. Fol­ lowing the wedding they honey­ mooned in the Ottawa area.Nicole and Doug Smith Newlyweds honeymoon in Mexico Susan and Michael Hendsbee MARKS-HENDSBEE A beautiful ceremony performed by Rev. Carolyn McAvoy united Susan and Michael in marriage on May 25, 1991 at the Melville Pres­ byterian Church, Brussels. Susan is the daughter of David and Alice Marks of Brussels and Michael is the son of Douglas and Anne Hendsbee of Brantford. Cathy Marks, London, cousin of the bride, was the maid of honour. Bridesmaids were Rose and Sandra Marks, Brussels, sisters of the bride, and Melanie Lanz, Kitchen­ er, friend of the bride. Eric Haugen, Acton, friend of the groom, was the best man. Ushers were the groom's brothers, Peter Hendsbee, Brantford and Mark Hendsbee, London, and Steve Watzeck, friend of the groom. Following the ceremony, a recep­ tion was held at the Brussels, Mor­ ris and Grey Community Centre. Then, off they went to spend a romantic honeymoon in Cancun, Mexico. Mr. Thornton was bom in Morris Township on July 18, 1921, son of the late Anson and Lottie (Cathers) Thornton. He is survived by his wife Mary (Mclnnes) whom he married on May 29, 1948. He is also survived by his chil­ dren: Helen and Gary Edge of Brantford, Evelyn Thornton of Kitchener, Don and Tina Thornton of Gorrie, Allan Thornton at home, Mae and Ken Hutchison of Gorrie, Shirley and Glenn Whilehead of Wingham, Dianne and Bill Krotz of Gorrie, Murray and Rhonda Thorn­ ton of Gorrie and 12 grandchildren. The late Mr. Thornton was the brother of Mrs. Tom (Loreen) Stokes of Wingham, Mrs. Charlie (Joyce) Lake of Atwood, Mrs. Arduino (Mary) Stefani of King City and Bill Thornton of Gorrie. He was predeceased by a brother Doran. Friends called at the Gorrie Chapel of Betts Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon and evening. The funeral service was conducted Friday afternoon at the Gorrie Unit­ ed Church by Rev. Jeff Hawkins. Interment followed in the Gorrie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Bennett, Roy Stewart, Bob Hawthorne, Gra­ ham Work, Bob Hastie, and John Van Donkersgoed. Floral tributes were carried by Earl, Greg and Gary Thornton. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Gorrie United Church. G. Cowan delivers United sermon Greeters for Blyth United Church July 28 were Dorothy and Laurie Scott. Ushers were John and Agnes Wharton and Doug Howatt. George Cowan opened service with call to worship: “Let us thank the Lord with all our hearts for great are his works and his love endures forever." The hymn “Come Thou Almighty King” was sung. The children’s hymn was “Jesus Bids Us Shine”. A. story relating to that hymn was told. Adeline Campbell sang “I walked into the Garden”. The scrip­ ture reading was from Ruth, chap­ ter 1. The hymn “All The Way My Saviour Leads Me” was sung. Mr. Cowan's sermon was on the book of Ruth, a book of Love. He and Adeline Campbell sang “Yield Not to Temptation”. The service closed with prayer, the hymn “O Master Let Me Walk With Thee”, benediction and choral response. A floral arrangement was placed in the sanctuary in memory of Grace Poore by the Sparling fami­ ly. A beautiful bouquet of roses from Marg Caldwell's garden also added beauty to the sanctuary.
