Brussels clubs host 20th annual fastball tournament This coming weekend marks the 20th year of the Brussels Invita­ tional Men's Fastball Tournament. This year should prove to be another excellent tournament with a good variety of teams from all over central and mid-western Ontario. Teams are coming from Cambridge, Kitchener, Camlachie and Ingersoll as well as local teams from Brussels, Mitchell, Seaforth, Blyth, Belmore, Walton and Scbringville. Brussels added three more in the sixth with Wayne Fenton scoring the lone run for Belgrave in the bottom of the inning. Juveniles improve record Monday night the Brussels Juve­ niles returned home from Moore­ field with a 4-1 win to improve their record to six wins and eight losses. Taking home the top prize in 1971 was the Stratford Memorials Ball Club. The 1972 tourney was won by the Wellesley Queens with the Fullarton Jrs. taking the “B” Crown. 1973 brought a local flavour to the tournament when the best known team from Brussels, Ritchie's Rockets, took the B cham­ pionship since then but this year the Tigers having a record of 13-4-1 in the Huron County Fastball League are legitimate contenders. It's hoped the boys of Brussels can join the likes of Bryonston, Fullarton, Arva and the Wingham B.P.'s pro­ vide the entertaining fastball that those teams provided in their days of glory on the ball field. The tournament starts August 2 at 7:30 p.m. with the tournament wrapping up on Monday, August 5 with the Consolation Champi­ onship game at 5 p.m. followed by the “A” Championship at 6:30 p.m. Admission at the gates is $3/day or $5 for a weekend pass. The tourna­ ment is sponsored by the Brussels Tigers Fastball Club and the Brus­ sels Optimist Club so the money all goes back into the community. Atoms beat Drayton The Brussels Atom Soccer Team travelled to Drayton last Thursday night and came away with a 3-1 victory. Il was an excellent team effort and due to solid passing, Trevor Wilson scored the three goals. If that sounds like a good deal... let's talk I u I HURON |j—I TRACTOR Sales Department Blyth 523-4244 1-800-265-9002 Friday night Brussels rallied from a 4-1 deficit midway through Man in critical condition in London A Walkerton man is in critical condition in a London hospital fol­ lowing a single vehicle accident in Tumberry township, just north of Wingham on Saturday at 5:40 p.m. According to a spokesperson from the Wingham OPP, Kenneth Shane Hickey, 27, was driving west at an unknown speed, when his 1980 Chev pick-up left the road and entered the south ditch where it struck a tree. Mr. Hickey, who was not wear­ ing a seat belt, the spokesperson said, was taken first to Wingham and District Hospital, before being transferred. The truck was listed as demol­ ished.
