The winners of the $500 Bessie Bingo, sponsored by the Brussels Crusaders Hockey Club were Barry and Diane Engel of Brussels. Jim Snider, RR1, Listowel won the $1,000 first prize in the Lions Club's Duck Race. Other top win­ ners were: John Haasnoot, Wrox- etcr; Ian Wilbee, Walton; Dorothy Preston, Bolton; Jamie Miners, RR1, Kincardine; Megan and Tri­ cia Teeft, Brussels; Bev Subject, Brussels; Judy Hahn, Brussels; Shirley Bell, Londesboro and Danny McKay, Brussels. Brussels People The Hemingway families com­ memorated the 160th anniversary of their pioneer ancestors’ arrival in Ontario at a gathering in Teeswater Park on June 22. John Hemingway and Elizabeth Fidlin came form Yorkshire, Eng­ land and settled in the Burlington area in 1831. Fifty people from Wawa, Brant­ ford, Teeswater, Cambridge, Exeter, Bayfield and Brussels and the surrounding area were in atten­ dance at the reunion. Picnic meals and a sports program were enjoyed by all. Bruce Godkin chaired the busi­ ness portion and Ruth Axtmann gave the secretary/lreasurer’s report. A picnic was planned for June 27, 1992, under the presidency of Linda Axtmann and the executive. The 29th annual Deitner reunion was held on Sunday, June 30, at the home of George and Marie Blake and family. About 90 descendants of the late James and Cecialia Deitner attend­ ed form Guelph, Sarnia, Sault Ste. Marie, Kitchener, London, Blyth, Goderich, Ethel, Port Albert, Bel­ grave, Brussels, Wingham, Walton and Clinton. On Saturday the community cen­ tre was alive with activity when people displayed their treasures at the giant garage sale. The Communi­ ty Thrift Shop Steering Committee is pleased with the success of the day. Winners of the raffle were: Karen Therrien-clown, Stan Alexander-plant stand, Ken Mac- Donald-grader, Lyle Heming- way-couch potato, Lavern Dingman-seal, Jim Mair-chick- adee and Andrew Corrigan-glass protector. The committee wishes to thank Carol and Murray Long for their contributions and the community for its support.
