FAYE ELIZABETH PEEL After a courageous struggle with cancer, Faye Elizabeth Peel of Gor­ rie, passed away on Friday, June 28, 1991 at Victoria Hospital in London. She was in her 39th year. The former Faye Blake was the beloved wife of Raymond Peel of Gorrie and the dear mother of Natalie. She will be remembered by her sister and brother-in-law Mary Ann and Jack Van de Hengel of Greenwood and by her mother-in- law Margaret Peel of Listowel. Her father Louis Blake predeceased her in 1984, while her mother Jean died in 1990. Mrs. Peel rested al Belts Funeral Home in Brussels Sunday after­ noon and evening. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral mass was the following morning at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church. Pallbearers were: Nathan Peel, Trevor Peel, Ray Black, Jake Haasnoot, Paul Blake and Jim Gamiss. Interment was held at St. Ambrose Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Can­ cer Society would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy. Obituaries JACOBUS "JACOB" DE VRIES Jacob De Vries of Walton died at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, June 25, 1991. He was iO. Mr. De Vries was bom in Win­ sum, The Netherlands and spent his ife farming. He married the former ^eina Ennema, who survives him. He was a member of the Blyth Christian Reformed Church. He was the dear father of Klaas ind Teresa De Vries of Listowel, iandy and Rea DeVries of London, Cees and Jane De Vries of Wing- lam and Sandy and Lois De Vries )f Listowel. Funeral services were held at Blyth Christian Reform Church on Thursday, June 27 at 2:30 p.m. <ev. Warren Lammers officiated, ’allbearers were Mr. De Vries’ ;randsons, Paul, Jeff, James, Rob, Cevin and Ken De Vries. Interment was at Blyth Union Cemetery. VERNA MAE THOMAS Verna Mae Thomas of Brussels passed away at Wingham and Dis­ trict Hospital on June 24, 1991, fol­ lowing a brief illness. She was 85. Mrs. Thomas was the loving mother of Charles and Marguerite Thomas of Brussels, Ruth and Roy Durst of Stratford, Joan Edgar of Listowel. She will be remembered by her son-in-law Jan Van Vliet of Brussels, 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was the dear sister-in-law of Ethel Dennis of Gorrie and Karl Neill of Sarnia. Besides her husband Harold, who passed away in 1983, Mrs. Thomas was predeceased by two daughters Joyce Van Vliet and Mary, who died in infancy; two brothers, Har­ vey and Melville Dennis; and a sis­ ter Eva Neill. Visitation was al Betts Funeral Home in Brussels from 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday. Morningstar Rebekah Lodge No.315 held a memorial service that evening. Rev. Cam McMillan officiated al the funeral service on Thursday at 2. Pallbearers were: Duane Edgar, Bob Thomas, David Thomas, John Van Vliet, Doug Durst, Michael Durst and Peter Durst. Flowerbear­ ers were: Shelley Miller, Janis McCooey, Debbie Claessens, Joy- anne Van Vliet, Dianne Sidders and Colleen Maning. Leanne Durst was honourary flowerbearer in absentia. Interment was held at Brussels Cemetery. As expressions of sym­ pathy, donations to Brussels United Church, the Canadian Cancer Soci­ ety or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. CLARENCE W. HANNA Belgrave-area residents are sad- ’> dened by the death of one of its prominent township residents on Saturday, June 29, 1991, following a tragic accident. Clarence W. Hanna, died at Wingham and District Hospital after being hit by a pick-up truck. He was in his 79th year. Mr. Hanna was born in Grey township on September 22, 1912. He was the son of the late William A. Hanna and Minnie Rose. He married his wife, the former Ruby Lennox, at the Listowel Baptist Church manse. During his early life, he was employed at Sprinrite in Listowel, then in 1945 he purchased the gen­ eral store in Belgrave, which he usiness operated for 18 years. Mr. Hanna was involved in local politics for 32 years, holding sever­ al offices before retiring in 1980. ‘ He also served on the board of the Children's Aid Society and was a member of Knox United Church in Belgrave and the Belgrave Loyal Orange Lodge. Besides his wife, Mr. Hanna is being mourned by his children, Lorraine and Eldon Cook of RR1, Belgrave; David and Joyce Hanna of North Battleford, Saskatchewan; Larry and Sandra Mayberry of Londesboro; Gail and Brian Storer of Kitchener. He was the dear father-in-law of Wayne Minick of Kitchener and a beloved grandfa­ ther to his 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was the loving brother of Ross and Alma Hanna of Listowel. Mr. Hanna was predeceased by his daughter Jean Minick in 1984; two sisters, Evelyn and Dorothy Mayberry and one brother Charlie, who died al the age of six. Visitation was Tuesday at the McBumey Funeral Home, Wing­ ham from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Rev. John G. Roberts will conduct the funeral service at Knox United on Continued on page 29 and CAT.
