I would like to welcome every
one here tonight to an event that
nine years ago we all thought
would never happen.
Kindergarten opened the first
chapter of a book that 27 students
together for nine years would fill
with memories of learning, grow
ing and maturing al Grey Central.
The two remarkable women who
taught us that year were Mrs. Whit
more and Mrs. Richmond. Nursery
Rhymes and colouring were the
main focus, but we all enjoyed the
castles in the sand and nap time just
after lunch. Phailop mastered
colouring from the very first day
and we all looked up to him
because he was the only one who
could stay within the lines with
thick crayons. At the end of the
year we all graduated as fine, little
poets and artists and off to grade
one we went.
Mrs. McKlellion taught us the
skills of counting numbers, reading
books, and writing about anything
from our favourite food to our read
ing buddies. Not only were we
reading books, but we actually got
to publish one of our very own.
When Mrs. McKlellion had to
leave after we went on grade two
Stewart, Hannes Haller, Craig Lawrence, Elena Schyff,
Sabina Hammel, Ryan Newman. Front row: David
Armstrong, David Joslin, Sara Rowbotham, Christa Knorr,
Charlotte Cummings, Erin Mitchell, Josh McCutcheon,
Kristal Smith, Amy Thomas, Christine Knorr.
were all sad to see her gowe
because now we would not be able
to sing the "peanut butter song",
but Mrs. Martin helped us get over
our loss.
In grade two we went on even
further with our numbers and addi
tion and subtraction, we found,
could help us count also. In the
middle of the year, Shawn joined
our class wearing cowboy boots
and all which added a real
"bounce" to things. We ended the
year with several games of "Seven
Up" and went on in a breeze.
The portable was a welcomed
change in grade three and so were
at Grey
our new teachers. We were intro
duced to the beginning of multi
plying and French by Madame
Rajna. Mrs. Crawford taught us
how to write our names correctly.
Social Studies was also her special
ty. We had many interesting hap
penings but the funniest of all was
when Christa got stuck in a tile
while playing outside one day.
Since then we've all stayed far
away from things that we could get
trapped in! Al the end of grade
three we all thought that was the
last lime we would have our two
teachers, but little did we know that
they would meet us again just
around the comer.
In grade four we were involved
with the world of science. Mr. Per-
rie's fall walks in the bush taught us
about trees, birds, and animals.
After a winter of school work, we
were all relieved when spring came
and to the outdoor we traipsed
again. A trip to Wingham was the
highlight of the year along with the
making of apple cider.
In grade five we ran into some
old friends except one of them had
gone through a name change. Mrs.
Crawford and now Madame
Colquhoun struggled on with us in
varying topics. We almost got to
make haggis after a unit on Scot
land but it was put off until we
finally gave up and went on to
grade six.
One of our kindergarten teachers,
Mrs. Whitmore, had liked us so
much that she decided to take on
the task of teaching us again along
with the librarian Mrs. Gillies.
They both taught us various cours
es but one of our favourite was
V.I.P. taught by Mrs. Gillies. Grade
six was summed up with a trip to
Midland to learn about the Jesuits
