BY JAYNE VINCENT On behalf of the 1990/91 grade 8 graduating class I would like to welcome the teachers, parents and other guests. This is a very important evening for everyone here tonight, whether we are teachers, parents or gradu ates. We students have just finished our grade 8 year, yet our lives have barely begun. We do not know what the future will hold for us, but our past experiences at East Wawanosh have given us many fond memories to look back upon. We began our first year of educa tion in Kindergarten with Mrs. Hes- sels and Mrs. Readman as our teachers. Being a very large class, we were split in January of that year. This did not give us much of a chance to get to know all of our classmates, but we all teamed up again in grade 1 with Mrs. Brydges. Grade 1 was a great learning expe rience for us all - learning our math facts and how to read and print. Mrs. Bosman also gave us a good footing in Grade 2 for the rest of our school years. Entering grade 3 was very excit ing as we prepared ourselves for lots of learning and hard work. Although the work was hard, Mr. Medd often made it fun by having contests and games to encourage us. Going into grade 4, we wel comed our new principal Mr. Scott who also had the privilege of hav ing us as his first class at East Wawanosh to leach along with Madame Turcotte. Mr. Scott taught us again in grade 5 with the high spirited and very peppy Mrs. Simpson! In grade 6 we greeted a new teacher, Mrs. Thorpe. With her being new and all we thought we could get away with anything, but we quickly found out that misbe having caused long, strenuous hours of dictionary work, and incorrect usage of words resulted in our being "canned" at the end of the year. Our grade 7 year brought with it some disappointment as we were split up for the entire year. It also opened the door to a new area of education where we had the oppor tunity of going into the high school every Thursday morning to Design and Technology as well as Family Studies. As grade 8 approached, high school started to become more and more of a reality. Our grade 8 year has passed by so fast! I think most of the graduates will agree that this has been our most memorable year at East Wawanosh. Some examples of memorable moments were when Mr. Bartlett's worst nightmare came true in the middle of a lesson. If that was his worst nightmare, then I don't know what taking us on an overnight camping trip was. During the night we had a few unexpected visitors that got into our food and a couple of students found out that raccoons lake revenge on those who chase them up trees. Throughout these nine years, we have had friends that have come Jane Vincent and friends that have left, but somehow we have all managed to stick together. Every graduate has made a spe cial achievement here tonight, for we have graduated. This is due not only to our own effort, time and hard work but that of our parents and teachers. Il was greatly appre ciated when you made us strive for our best when we would have rather quit and when you showed tolerance and a good sense of humor on those days that you thought we were hopeless and would rather have given up on us! What I think wc have learned throughout our years at East Wawanosh is a lol more than wc could have ever learned from any text book. We, the graduates did not only learn the alphabet, our math facts and how to spell, but wc learned how to accept people for what they are and not what wc want them to be. Now as we receive our diploma that stales we have successfully graduated, I'd just like to say that I hope every graduate's wishes, hopes and goals arc fulfilled in the near future. Sec you in high school!
