The Citizen, 1991-07-03, Page 14• I » Jfutfett Central Tub tic Scfwob____- _______ remembers first day BY ERIN JAMIESON Do you remember the first time that big, yellow school bus came to whisk you off to that enormous, frightening place known as Hullett Central. Good evening honoured classmates, teachers, parents and friends and welcome to the grade 8 graduation of the class of 90-91. This is a moment we've all been waiting for, for a very long time - even as young hopeful kinder gartens watching in awe at past grade 8s, dreaming one day we would be like them. Now that the time has finally arrived for us to graduate and leave Hullett Central behind , we hate to see it go, wishing it would last for ever. Grade nine and all the hustle and bustle of high school seems like an extremely large step from the small setting of Hullett Central. It is when you really think about it. Over the past nine years we have seen additions and subtractions to our class and now wc leave Hullett with 33. Out of those 33 many friendships have been built, and it's hard at times like these when we are going to be separated. High school will bring us new friends but we will never forget the old ones. As Tim Traynor wrote "Friendship is something you con sider for a moment, but cherish for Erin Jamieson Hullett Class of '91 June 24 saw the graduation ceremony for the grade 8 class of Hullett Central School. Members of the class are:, (front row, left to right) Erin Jamieson, Paula Allen, Laurel Campbell, Nichole Harris, Leisa Thompson, Rachel Jenkins, Lyndsey Salverda, Melissa Hanna, April Gross: (second row) Bill Millson, grade 8 teacher, Kent Shillinglaw, Jason Dalton, Darrell Bergsma, Maria Stepan, Mandy Hadenko, Lindsay Anderson, Shelley Dobie, Aliecia Biesinger, Ryan Chamney, Jason VanDorp, Tim Cowan; (back) Mark Shepherd, Anthony Wilkinson, Jeff Stewart, Kevin Losereit, Scott Arthur, Peter Craig, Jonathon Collins, Michael DeJong, Todd Shaddick, Corey Baynton, Darryl Mayberry and principal Ron Jewitt.-photo by Clinton News-Record. an eternity." I'm sure that many of the friendships will do just that. Friends are people who stand beside you no matter what. They are very important throughout this stage in our lives. High school will bring challenges and you need friends around to see you through these times. We are all young adults ready to discover life and its many joys and sorrows and having friends around during these times makes life that much more enjoy able. Graduation is one of these times. Another one is class trips. Our class has taken many but the last two arc most vivid in my mind. In grade 7 our class journeyed to Toronto for the day to the Metro Zoo and Sky- Dome. At the zoo some of us lost our way, particularly in the African Pavillion, while the others searched out the rest of the zoo. Off to the SkyDome where our seats were on the SkyDeck. Of course our class made it fun. Last of all our grade eight trip to stay overnight in Toronto. The first day wc did a lot of touring, but were then let roam on our own in the Eaton's Centre plus a movie of our choice. The next day no one could keep their eyes open, includ ing Mr. Millson, so that day was pretty calm and quiet, which is unusual for our class. These are just some of the many special moments our class has shared together over the past nine years. But all good things have come to an end. That doesn't mean the memories have to too. One part of our lives has ended, but a new one is just begin ning. I feel that thank you's arc now in store for our teachers' who not only taught us but also tried to be our friends. They educated us and helped us grow in many ways. And to you we owe a great deal, thank you. To my classmates I would like to say a fond farewell. All the best in he future. It has been a pleasure being in your class and knowing you all. I would like to close with a poem by Margaretta Brown: Time goes on and makes its changes But some things remain steadfast, Memories with thoughts and fancies That stay with us to last. In the days and years to follow, None will be more sincere and true Than the thoughts and heartfelt wishes, For friends like you. S' All the best to you, Grads!
