Environmental theme, topic of UCW meeting The United Church Women (U.C.W.) of Duff's met in the church basement for the joint gen­ eral meeting Wednesday evening, June 5 with 26 ladies present. Worship was led by Margery Fraser opening with prayer. The hymn "Praise the Lord, Ye heav­ ens, Adore Him" was sung accom­ panied by pianist Marion Godkin. The offering was received and ded­ icated. The scripture was read by Margery Fraser and Mary Humphries alternatively. "O Wor­ ship the King" was sung. Mary Humphries closed this part of the meeting with prayer. Marilyn McDonald took the topic, Church in Society, the theme dealing with the environment. Mar­ ilyn was assisted by Marie Coutts and Dorothy Sholdice when they put on a skit "And not so very triv­ ial pursuit" each one taking differ­ ent parts on the 3 R’s, reduce, reuse and recycle as they played on the pursuit board. Marilyn gave more facts on the environment, informa­ tion heard before but which can't be said too often, the more people hear it the more people will do it to help landfills. God has given us Stew­ ardship, we would all win by using all this information to help out. Dorothy Sholdice conducted the business opening with a quotation from the Heritage Book. Minutes were approved as read by Doreen Hackwell. Correspondence was read includ­ ing a letter from Lavina Watson, former Walton resident. She and Walton Compiled by Mrs. Betty McCall. Phone 887-6677 People visit former resident Hazel Watkins and Beth Knox of Londesboro visited with Isabelle Shortreed on Sunday evening. Allan and Betty McCall called on Ruth Thamer on Tuesday at her Dave live at the Hensail rest home. Leona McDonald gave the treasur­ er's report, the garage and bake sale made almost $500. An invitation was read from Bluevale U.C.W. to attend their meeting June 16 at 8 p.m. Ross Procter is to show slides. The flow­ er bed in front of the church was to be looked after.
