Blyth P.S. students entertain at Huronview LA LA LA LA by Shawna Walker and Becky Morrison Six weeks ago to this day, Mrs. Cronin started to play her keyboard for the senior choir, to accompany their singing. On May 16 grades 5 to 8 went to Huronview to sing for the Huronview residents. We sang songs that brought back memories for the older generation. Elisha Courtney, Ross Clark, Michelle McNichol, Ashley Howson, Julie Ritchie and Karin Schroecker pro­ vided entertainment with their recorders followed by Zoey Onn on her violin. Mrs. Webster conducted the choir for the program. We would like to thank the staff of Huronview for their hospitality and their refreshments provided for the dry-throated choir. SENIORS AND GRANDPARENTS DAY by Kimey Richmond Thursday, May 16 was an excit­ ing day at B.P.S. On this day Seniors and grandparents from the Blyth area came for an afternoon of of entertainment. The afternoon started with the junior choir, which includes grades 1 - 4. The choir was directed by Mrs. Webster and accompanied by Mrs. Little. Next came the grade 1 choir and reading time. The grade 2's read to the seniors as well. After the read­ ing came the grade 3 recorder group. They played a few numbers including part of Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Their teacher, Mrs. Lit­ tle has been helping them learn to play the recorder during the past two months. Then the senior choir sang some songs directed by Mrs. Webster and accompanied by Mrs. Cronin. After that the grade 8 girls served lunch to the seniors, which included muffins, tea or lemonade. We thank the grade 8's and the teachers for getting this day organized, and we hope that the seniors enjoyed the afternoon. OFF TO WINGHAM AGAIN by Kim Ferguson Bus driver Bob McClinchey at B.P.S. was kept busy shipping the students in grades 7 and 8 to F.E. Madill S.S. in Wingham on Tues­ day, May 14. The students attended their regu­ lar classes of Shop and Home Ec. in the morning and were bussed back to watch a presentation on drugs, alcohol and peer pressure in the afternoon. Grade 7 and 8 pupils from many other schools were also in attendance. A show on three screens was shown with lots of colour and music. It was a fun and yet educational time for all. HOP, SKIP AND JUMP by Rhonda Gibbons and Courtney Sauve The Grades 3 to 8 students of B.P.S. participated in our annual Track and Field Day. There were events such as the triple jump, running long, standing long, high jump, ball throw and shot put were for the older grades. There were also four running events: 100 m., 200 m., 400 m., and 800 m. for the older grades. There were several teachers set up at sev­ eral stations. Anyone who received a first or second ribbon gets to go the regional meet in Seaforth. There were first, second and third Obituaries JOSEPH OSCAR BLANK Joseph Oscar Blank passed away on Friday, May 17, 1991 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. He was 73. Mr. Blank was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Prince Albert Medal and the Confederation European Medal. He was a member of the Dunkirk Veteran Association 1940 and was awarded the Dunkirk Medal 1940. Mr. Blank was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 296 in Harriston and the Wingham Branch. He was cur­ rently a member of the Royal Canadi­ an Legion Branch in Listowel. Mr. Blank was the loving father of .Jennifer Blank of Waterloo, Trevor Blank of York, Maine, and Velma Beaubien of Waterloo. He was the dear brother of Mrs. Arvin J. Thayer of Sacramento, California, Mrs. ribbons for the winners. We would like to say thank you to all the helpers we had on the exciting Field Day. Charles Gantt of Greenwood, South Carolina and Mrs. Carl Van Buskirk of Rockford, Illinois. Visitation was held at the Betts Funeral Home in Gorrie from 24 and 7-9 on Sunday. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 296, Harriston held a Memorial service that evening. Rev. Jeff Hawkins conducted the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Monday. Inter­ ment was at Harriston Cemetery.
