Bly th UCW hears
from dist. president
Fiddlin' around
This group of musicians got together at Blyth Lions Fiddle Jamboree for an impromptu jam
session . From left: Lloyd Warwick of Bluevale, Harry Haskell of Hanover, Brian Melick of
Sarnia, Ken Wilson of Goderich and Ned Thompson of Mitchell. A sell-out crowd attended the
annual event.
The regular meeting of the Blyth
U.C.W. was held on Thursday,
May 16 with Mrs. Edith Walker of
Goderich (West Huron President)
in attendance.
Mrs. Shirley Rutledge conducted
the worship on the theme "Yeast,
Spice and Spark" comparing a
recipe for buns with the recipe for
life. Yeast is yearning, spice is
scripture and spark is service.
Mrs. Ollie Craig presented her
World Outreach topic "The Sudan",
telling of the drought and famine in
that country and the great need for
help. During the month of May the
United Church is conducting an
appeal for funds called "Hom for
Africa". In 1990 $730,000 was
raised through this appeal. C.I.D.A.
will match donations 3 to 1.
During the business period, Mrs.
Walker brought greetings from the
Executive. President Mrs. June
Peck thanked the U.C.W. ladies for
their great support of the two spe
cial events this Spring. Sixteen
ladies attended the Thankoffering
in Auburn and 13 travelled to
Varna for the April event. She
asked for an equally good response
to the "Camp Site Day" at Menese-
tung on June 10. The annual Fall
Rally will be held on October 8 in
Donnybrook.
The meeting ended with lunch
served by the Sunshine Unit.
