The regular meeting of the Blyth U.C.W. was held on Thursday, May 16 with Mrs. Edith Walker of Goderich (West Huron President) in attendance. Mrs. Shirley Rutledge conducted the worship on the theme "Yeast, Spice and Spark" comparing a recipe for buns with the recipe for life. Yeast is yearning, spice is scripture and spark is service. Mrs. Ollie Craig presented her World Outreach topic "The Sudan", telling of the drought and famine in that country and the great need for help. During the month of May the United Church is conducting an appeal for funds called "Hom for Africa". In 1990 $730,000 was raised through this appeal. C.I.D.A. will match donations 3 to 1. During the business period, Mrs. Walker brought greetings from the Executive. President Mrs. June Peck thanked the U.C.W. ladies for their great support of the two spe­ cial events this Spring. Sixteen ladies attended the Thankoffering in Auburn and 13 travelled to Varna for the April event. She asked for an equally good response to the "Camp Site Day" at Menese- tung on June 10. The annual Fall Rally will be held on October 8 in Donnybrook. The meeting ended with lunch served by the Sunshine Unit. Blyth. People There were 12 tables in play at the May 13 euchre party at Blyth Memorial Hall. Bernice Brown and Bill Craig had the high scores. Hazel Reid and Len Shobbrook had the low scores. June Jacklin and Harvey Dolmage had the most lone hands. The spe­ cial prize went to Marjorie McDougall. Mr. and Mrs. Randy McVittie of Kingston visited on the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hesselwood. grandchildren (so far!) A buffet luncheon was served and birthday cake and ice cream. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all on a beautiful Mother's Day. Visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Snell on the holiday weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Timpany of Aylmer on Sunday and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson, Kari and Kurt of London on Monday. Christina Roulston visited at her home on the weekend before returning to University of Waterloo where she is studying. Brussels people Continued from page 2. EDITH SMITH The friends and family of Edith Smith (nee McDowell) gathered together on Sunday, May 12 at the Westfield Restaurant in honour of her 75th birthday. Many travelled from Blyth, Wingham, Clinton, London, Kitch­ ener, Toronto, etc. to Westfield with their best wishes for Edith. She lived in the Westfield area for many, many years before mov­ ing to London. Her children, Doug and Lynn Smith of Blyth, Norma and John McDowell of London, and Barb and Marv Liley of Lon­ don were all present, and responsi­ ble for the festivities.
