Jeff Josling rinses off a car at the Blyth Scouts' car wash held Saturday at Dickson's Garage.
Scout leaders Steve Root (left) and Rainer Saur lend a hand at the task. The carwash is one
of the last functions of the year as the Scouting season winds down.

Mrs. Lila Radford arrived home
on April 25, from North Palm
Beach, Florida, where she has been
living in a condominium, first with
her husband George, for 25 years
and after his passing, alone, except
for family and other guests at
times. Since 1947, she has lived for
six months in Florida and six
months in Blyth.
When George Radford was living
and had the responsibility of his
Blyth construction business, their
stay in Florida was only a week or
two in length on their first trip
south. Each year it grew increasing
ly longer until, since George’s
death, a half-year's change of cli
mate is al Lila’s disposal, and she
makes beneficial use of it each
year. She likes all aspects of this
state especially the weather, as did
her husband. When they moved
into their condo complex so did
other families who are still living in
it which has helped a firm friend
ship to develop among them all. "I
am alone only when I wish to be,"
Lila says. The game of bridge is
one of her favourite pastimes, and
finding a foursome poses no prob
lems. Living nearby are single
ladies. Besides bridge games, they
go off to bingo and enjoy other
entertainment.
Now back in her Blyth home on
Sunset Drive for six months, she
has reasons for feeling fortunate
and thankful: the proximity of her
only daughter Diane Radford's
Blyth home; the short distance
away from her granddaughters,
Valerie and Shelley and great
grandchildren, Cole and Caitlin;
and having around her, her precious
Blyth friends and neighbours for

six months. The most recent bless
ing is the fact that Lila’s stubborn
cold contracted shortly after her
arrival in Blyth, which has kept her
bed-ridden for a week, has decided
to take its departure. Our wish for
Lila Radford is that her 47th year
of dividing each year evenly, time
wise, between south and north (this
fall it will begin) will prove as
pleasant, as beneficial and as beau
tiful as any former year, even more
so, if that is possible.
Frank and Dorothy Elliott are the
latest Blyth residents to return from
Florida. They returned on April 28
after an enjoyable six-months in
Lakeland, where they have stayed
other years.
They enjoy Lakeland’s Parks, its
spacious swimming pool and
sauna, dance floor, up-to-date
equipment rooms, etc. Dances are
held twice a month and Frank and
Dorothy did not miss one.
These Elliotts are sold on the
benefits of walking. Five days
weekly along with friends, they
walked at least two to three miles a
day.
At home, Dorothy finds relax
ation at her easel finishing or
beginning an art piece. This year
was no exception. Dorothy's moth
er, Mrs. Peck is a well-known
Huron artist.
During these relaxation months,
they enjoyed entertaining friends
and relatives: Dorothy's sister and
her husband from Englewood, Ont.,
and her brother, a six-month resi-

Weather plays a big part in mak
ing people love FLorida, and this
winter's weather did very much to
create smiles of joy. In past years
cold spells of two or three days that
caused young natives who were
shooting basketballs at outside
hoops wore stocking caps. Not the
case the last two or three years
when weather has been good to
excellent. Dorothy maintains this
year it was super.
