Mariann and Murray Bone Pastor Bauman leads service Brussels couple marries in United Church ceremony Sunday, April 25, Pastor Gordon Bauman led the service and presented the message, "Jubilee - 20th Century Style". The message was based on Leviticus 25: 1-17 and 11 Corinthi- United Church news 1 Greeters at Blyth United Church on April 28 were Bonnie and Herb Shannon. Ushers were Rod, Debbie, Kevin and Carrie Ansley. Rev. Ramirez opened the service with call to worship followed by the hymn "For the Beauty of the Earth", a responsive reading, scripture read­ ing from John 15: 1-16 and the hymn "Ye Servants of God". Rev. Ramirez demonstrated and talked to the children about vines and branches and Joan Clark assisted afterwards. The choral anthem, "Ivory Palaces” was sung. The sanc­ tuary was decorated with a beautiful floral arrangement in memory of Marj McNall placed by her husband Don and family and two lovely Martha Washington geraniums placed by Deanna Snell and Wilma Scott. Craig Bauman, formerly from Blyth, gave a very interesting talk on his commitment this summer when he will be in Europe with the Chris­ tian Outreach International for five weeks. ans 8: 1-7. Lyall Winger and Pastor Bauman also gave a brief report on the MCEC annual meeting which they had attended recently. Grade 7-8s enjoyed a "swim party" at Vanastra Saturday afternoon. Brussels United Church was the setting for the wedding ceremony uniting Murray Bone and Mariann Scott. Rev. Cam McMillan officiated. The groom is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bone of Brussels and the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Spence Scott, also of Brussels. Anne Kernaghan of London, a friend of the bride was maid-of hon­ our for the occasion. Bridesmaids were Patricia McKay of Brussels and Special award The Blyth Festival was given a special award at the Excellence in Public Education awards night in Holmesville Wednesday night. The Festival was given the award for its efforts to involve high school students in drama. Cathy Bone of London. Attending the groom was his best man Bob Pearson of Brussels. The guests were ushered in by the bride's brothers, Jim and Brian Scott, both of Brussels. Following a wedding reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, the newlyweds left for a honeymoon trip to Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Bone are now resid­ ing at their home on Elizabeth Street in Brussels. Rev. Ramirez' sermon was "Para­ ble of Vine and Branches" and "Christ is our Blessed Assurance". Service closed with "How Sweet the Name of Jesus sounds" followed by benediction and choral response, 'To God be the Glory". Members were pleased to have Mr. Irvine Wallace of Clinton as a guest. Irvine was a valued member of the Society before moving to Clinton several years ago. President John Hesselwood chaired the meeting and welcomed all. The usual reports were given and some business discussed. The bus trip to Hamilton to the "Geritol Follies" on June 25 was mentioned with more details later. Our next meeting will be May 27 with dessert at 1 p.m. and Londesboro Seniors as guests. Music was enjoyed with Jim McCall and Harve McDowell on vio­ lins. Lloyd Walden and Millar Rich­ mond on mouth organs, Jim Lawrie on drums and Ella Richmond at the piano. Happy Birthday was sung to Mae Badley, Jim Lawrie, Lenora Davidson and Feme McDowell for their April birthdays. John introduced Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Lapp from Auburn who had just returned from a trip to China. They left on March 3 with several other people from Auburn and after a long flight landed in Beijing. They saw many interesting sights including the Great Wall. They said the people seemed happy and everyone was employed. They visited farms, small villages, and went to a Chinese opera, the zoo, a cemetery and saw many beautiful temples as well as modem buildings like the Sheraton Hotel. Mary Walden thanked Elliot for bringing us a visit to China through his interesting pictures and commen­ tary. This ended a very enjoyable afternoon. BRUSSELS UNITED CHURCH Rev.
