Recent repair work on the hardwood floor of the basement hall showed that dry-rot was weakening the floor boards and it's only a matter of time before the floor must be replaced. A preliminary estimate was that it would cost $23,000 to install a new hardwood floor which had councillors looking at alternative flooring choices.*»* The cost of repainting the rusted beams at the Blyth and District Com- muniiy Centre arena will be higher than originally predicted but the job will be better and last longer, Coun cillor Dave Lee told council. Origi nally plans were to wire-brush the old rust off and apply new paint. Instead sandblasting will be done to make sure the rust is completely removed, then the clean surface will be painted with an epoxy paint that is guaran teed for years. *** Blyth and East Wawanosh will co host the annual meeting of the Huron County Municipal Officers Associa tion in 1992. The material is lignin, a byproduct of the pulp and paper making process that is advertised to bind the gravel particles together and eventually could lead to a surface as hard as asphalt. "I'm sure it's more expensive but it's worth a try for environmental reasons," Councillor Dave Lee said. Councillor Steven Sparling, who had investigated the substance explained that after the first year the amount of material that must be sup plied is supposed to be less until after the third year the surface is hard. "I think if this is even close to the cost of calcium, we should give it a shot," he said." Councillor Lee pointed out there were two gains from an environmen tal standpoint: using a material that isn't as hard on the environment and OPTIONS Tank mix to match your toughest soybean weeds Crime Stoppers Flashback ' dCrime Stoppers and Ontario Provincial Police are seeking your assistance to help solve this 1985 break, enter and theft. Between 6:15 p.m. on March 30, 1985 and 8:50 a.m. on April 1, 1985 thieves undertook a Hollywood type break and enter. They pried the back door to a vacant store with what appears to have been a large crowbar. Once inside the store the thieves took considerable time sawing and break ing through a concrete block wall into the adjacent store (Nabour Store in Goderich) which left a 3' x 2' hole. After quickly locating the safe they hammered and pried at it until it opened. From inside the safe the cul prits got away with over $3,300 in cheques and cash.
