Local girls winners in majorette contest Several area girls won awards at the Midwest Majorette Competi­ tion held at F. E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham on Saturday. In the five and six-year-old category, Rachel Elliott of Brussels finished in second place while Jenna Fischer and Cassie Fischer both of RR 3, Brussels, finished fifth and sixth respectively. Shannon White, also of Brussels tied for fifth place in the seven and eight-year-old category. Lesley Elliott finished fourth in the category for nine and ten-year- olds. Leslie is from Brussels. Two Belgrave girls and another Brussels girl took awards in the category for first year competitors eight to 12-year-olds. Tracey Elston of Belgrave took second overall, while Ainsley Wilson of Brussels came fourth and Kirstyn Gerth of Belgrave placed fifth. Three Belgrave girls came in the top three spots for girls 11-12. Candice Irwin was first, Lindsay Michie was second and Laura Sinclair tied for third. Brussels girl Erin Mitchell came in second overall for girls 13 and up, while Amy Thomas of Ethel finished fourth overall. Cheryl Al­ len of Belgrave placed sixth in this category. ( Over 100 baton twirlers from St. Marys. Exeter. Stratford. Walker­ ton and Atwood clubs participated in the contest.
