Stonehouses honoured
The morning service at Belgrave
United Church on April 21, 1991
took the form of a service of
recognition for the services render
ed to the Belgrave and Calvin-
Brick United Churches by the
Stonehouses. Lewis has been trea
surer and Helen has been his
faithful helper for 28 years. At the
age of 86 Lewis has finally decided
to hand over the duties of treasurer
to newly elected officer Lome
Campbell.
The Sunday service concentrated
on the theme of love in action. The
Rev. Peter Tucker talked about the
necessity of love, which is a noun,
becoming a verb in order to make
love live. “Every action which puts
self first instead of others”, he said
“is a denial of that for which our
Lord came to earth.” He added,
“Christ was the perfect example of
love in action. Unless love becomes
a verb, rather than remaining a
noun, we have little hope of
pleasing the God whom we claim to
serve.”
He concluded by saying that the

Sacred Heart 4H club starts
The first meeting of the 4H club
at Sacred Heart Separate School in
Wingham took place recently.
Members talked about how to keep
a club growing and what each
person does; about how to keep
their books clean and how to care
for animals.
Cats, dogs and other animals are
all associated with this year’s 4-H
program at Sacred Heart School in
Wingham. At the first meeting
members elected Kevin Hallahan;
short letter but full of real and
practical advice for us today. James
pulls no punches as he says that all
our talk about love is invalid unless
it results in action. “Therefore”,
said Mr. Tucker, “in defiance of
grammar, make love a verb.”
After singing, “Come Let us
Sing of a Wonderful Love”, “Great
is Thy Faithfulness” and “Guide
Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”,
favourite hymns of Mr. Stone
house, the congregation proceeded
downstairs, where Lewis was pre
sented with a pen and ink drawing
of Knox United Church, Belgrave
by the artist Ron Kropf of Welle
sley. John Campbell, chairman of
the Board of Stewards made that
presentation.
Mrs. Matilda Dawson, treasurer
of the Calvin-Brick congregation,
made a presentation of flowers for
Mrs. Stonehouse. After suitable
speeches and responses, lunch was
served. After lunch several photo
graphs were taken of the Stone
