The Citizen, 1991-04-17, Page 20PAGE 20. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17, 1991. Central Huron band, choir to perform concert May 1 The music department of Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton, will end another busy year with their annual Spring Music Concert, Obituaries JEAN ORTH Jean Orth of Molesworth, died suddenly on Thursday, April 11, 1991 at Listowel Memorial Hospi tal. She was 42. The former Jean Cardiff was the beloved wife of Garry Orth and the dear mother of Sandra and her husband Bruce Armstrong of Bracebridge. She was the loving grandmother of Brandon John Armstrong. She will be deeply missed by her sister Fran Rose of Brussels and her brother and his wife Fred and Marie Cardiff of Windsor. Also, left to mourn her passing are her mother Helen Cardiff of Brussels and her father- in-law, Lome Orth of Listowel. Mrs. Orth was the dear sister-in- law of Sharon and Paul Smith, Richard Orth and his friend Dorcas, to be held in the school auditorium on Wednesday, May 1 at 8 p.m. The band under the direction of Hugh McGregor has undertaken Donald and Vicki Orth, and Murray and Brenda Orth, all of Palmer ston. She will be missed by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Orth was predeceased by her father, Pete Cardiff in 1974 and by her brother-in-law Jim Rose on March 25, 1991. Mrs. Orth rested at Betts Funer al Home in Brussels from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 on Saturday. Rev. David Fuller officiated at the funeral service, which was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at St. John’s Anglican Church in Brussels. Pallbearers were: Jack Stewart, Glenn Fraser, Ross Hett rick, Joe Moore, Vernal Cummings and John Cummings. Interment will be held at Brus sels Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or St. John’s Anglican Church would be appre ciated. many activities over and above the regular music classes and evening practices that have been on going all year. In November they participated along with three other area high school bands in an all-day music workshop which culminated in a performance open to the commun ity called "Huron Musicfest”. In December the bands and choir presented a Christmas concert. Promotional tours of area elemen tary schools were planned for February, but had to be postponed because of snow storms. These tours are just now being complet ed. As well as experience for the music students, these tours intro duce elementary school children to the music program available to them when they graduate into secondary school. In February many of the music department attended a perfor mance of University Bands called “Pops Band Spectacular” at the University of Western Ontario in London. Here they saw what is available in music at the University level. On April 23, the band will travel to Stratford where they will take part in the Kiwanis Music Festival. The students are busy preparing for their performance in May at the Spring Concert, but they are also busy (as many of the community are probably aware) selling and making pizzas to raise money for their upcoming trip to Bermuda in the spring of 1992. The students thank all those who have now included pizzas in their diets, and hope they’ll continue their “Pizza Diet” for the next few months. The next pizza making day is May 11. The choir under the direction of Jeff Hearn has been equally as busy performing with the band at the concerts and on tour. The choir is unique this year containing more guys than gals, and they produce very fine quality singing. The choir is available to perform in the community and have already performed with the Blyth Festival Singers, and will be singing at the evening Artniversary service at Wesley Willis United Church, Clin ton on May 5. As well as music, the Spring Concert win once again feature the work of the visual arts students under the direction of Mr. Ron Walker. The Spring Concert is open to the whole community. Proceeds from the evening (silver collection) will go towards the projects of the Music Department. Start Here Be a part of Canada's original green movement - with kids.
