Despite the dismal, damp weather a good crowd turned out for the event. Winning smiles The winning Grade 8 students of the East Wawanosh Public School Science Fair held recently are, from left: Rowan Kerr, third; Greg Young, first; Darryl Marks, Honourable Mention; Aaron Barnes, first and Collin Campbell, second. Greg, Aaron and Collin advanced to the county competition held in Brussels last Friday. Procter family attends wedding < Mrs. Doris Michie, Mrs. Louise Bosman, Mrs. Barbara Anderson, Mrs. Norma Moore and Mrs. Muriel Coultes attended the Lon­ don Conference Annual meeting in Sault Ste. Marie on the weekend. Janice and Jonathon Matheson, Karen and Sean Cook, and Coultes also visited in Sault Marie on the weekend. What a fun way to celebrate the last meeting with a splash at Vanastra Pool, a New Orleans pizza and pop. Along with a warm and sunny Saturday, April 6 found members in Clinton and area. Fun and relaxation was enjoyed at the pool first, then the rehearsal of skits and presentations. At Ruth’s, books were finished and left in anticipa­ tion of Achievement Night. Two of the members received County Honours for six clubs completed: Jennifer Cucksey and Karrin Marks. Fordwich Women’s Institute Hall was a grand setting for the evening. Jane Muegge commented on the special projects and skits. Pauline Richards showed various ueautifully arranged plants by add­ ing cut flowers. The evening was enjoyed by all. Dainty containers of variegated flowers and bud vases containing daffodils decorated the sanctuary of Knox United Church, Belgrave, on Sunday, April 14 when the Sacrament of the Lord’s supper and dedication were observed. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Procter greeted members as they arrived while Mrs. George Procter, organ­ ist, played sacred numbers. She later accompanied the choir as it sang “Come Celebrate Jesus”. Following a brief prayer the children, under the supervision of Mrs. John McCracken, retired to the school room. The recently installed amplifying system was dedicated by Rev. Peter Tucker. He expressed grati­ tude to the congregation for ser­ vice, time and money provided for gifts which have been donated to M. Coultes heads Conference The 29th Annual meeting of London Conference United Church Women was held in Central United Church, Sault Ste. Marie, April 7, 8, 9. Almost 250 ladies were registered which 62 were from the Huron-Perth area. The theme for the conference was “Firming Up” and it was expressed in several ways. Rev. Dennis Posno of Sault Ste. Marie opened with a gathering commun­ ion and Mrs. Kate Young of Iron Bridge led in Bible Study, with children as her topic. Dr. Betty Bridgeman of Winona, Ontario, spoke in the afternoon of her work in Africa. Most U.C.W.’s support the Seeds for Africa project which Dr. Bridgeman was involved with in Africa. Each Presbyterial made a presentation on the theme. The convenors also reported in a humorous way Monday afternoon. Through the system the human word will find its way into the hearts of men and to the Glory of God. The minister read the passage, “The two men on the road Emmaus,” to emphasize his theme. These men went travelling on foot, in noon­ day heat, to Emmaus. As they plodded on, distressed by the incidents of Easter week, discus­ sing their misery, mystery and confusion, a stranger joined them. He was recognized later as Jesus. On their invitation he broke bread with them at supper. He was then recognized. We are not alone in the depths of our despair. We must invite Jesus to join us. Mrs. Shirley Smith of St. Thomas President of London Conference installed Mrs. Muriel Coultes of Belgrave as the new President of London Conference United Church Women. Mrs. Coultes was present­ ed with a corsage from the Bel­ grave U.C.W. by Mrs. Louise Bosman; a bouquet of flowers from Huron-Perth Presbyterial by Mrs. Verna Burgin and roses and gifts from some of her family who had travelled to Sault Ste. Marie to surprise her. Mrs. Susan Howson of Blyth was appointed secretary. Mrs. Irene Hansford of Putman, retiring pre­ sident was presented with a plaque from the London Conference Women.
