Brussels PS reports activities by Chris Burkholder and Jason Gauthier From Monday, March 18 until Friday, March 22 Jason Gauthier and I, Chris Burkholder interview ed students from kindergarten to grade 8 about what they liked best about March Break. Steven Oldfield of grade 4 and Jason Kellington from grade 5 both said that they liked playing road hockey. Grade 3’s Shaun Jamieson told us during the break he enjoyed riding his bike. Shane Wilson from grade 7 liked the March Break because there was no school. Mike Seeds, also from grade 7, said he went to Kitchener. Not just kids had fun during the March Break. Finally we asked Mr. Parsons, the grade 2/3 teacher and music teacher what he did. He said he went skiing for five days. Friday, March 22 Mother Earth and her assistant Mister Music visited Brussels Public for about 45 minutes to talk about preserving the earth, what is happening to the earth, and how we can help save it. CAREER CHOICES by Victoria Richards and Sherry Tyerman When 1 grow up I want to be a ... The students of grade 8 at Brussels Public School are doing a career shadowing unit which means for one day each grade 8 student will shadow someone in the career of his/her choice. Many jobs were available to choose from, such as teachers, real estate agents, bakers, dentists, bank managers, veterinary ser vices, hairdressers, and Daycare workers. Many of the students may find that the job they shadowed is just right for them. Last Thursday Mr. Ross Haley from Ontario Hydro visited our school for the day. In the morning before recess he was talking to grades 4-8 about energy. He had many noisy demonstrations that were fun and interesting for every one. After recess (10:40 a.m.) he had the grade 3/4’s, 4/5’s in the auditorium to speak to them about different kinds of energy. In the afternoon he had the grade 6/7- 7/8’s to discuss different sources of energy and ways to conserve energy. We think that everyone really enjoyed his presentation because it was really interesting and fun to participate in. SCIENCE FAIR On Thursday, April 4 Brussels Public School held its annual Science Fair. Many entries were made and all were very well done. The prize winners will be announced at a later date; the staff wishes all the entrants good luck. The students at Brusels Public, from grade 6, 7, and 8 are all excited about the Science Fair.
