$16,900 to increase the surplus.
The Medical Dental Board show
ed a small surplus of $2,080 for the
year despite reduced revenues
when one doctor’s office was
vacant for part of the year. The
board transferred $22,484 from a
bequest to a special reserve and
put $3,311 aside as a working
reserve.
The Brussels Cemetery Board
had a small deficit of $1,455 on the
year’s operation.
The Brussels, Morris and Grey
catering group had another good
year, turning $10,000 over to the
Recreation committee and showing
a surplus for $3,653 for the year on
revenues of $23,337.
There were several signs of the
times in the report. Brussels PUC

1989. And tax arrears jumped to
seven per cent from six per cent, an
increase to $29 per capita in the
village from $24. Still the number
of people owing taxes has dropped
dramatically from the 1985 levels
when 17 per cent of taxes were in
arrears in the village.
Sorry!
Our
mistake
In the report of the budget of the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Recrea
tion Committee in last week’s
Citizen, the headline gave an
incorrect impression. The story
correctly said the cost of recreation
had increased five per cent to
taxpayers, not the five per cent tax
increase the headline indicated.
The Citizen regrets the error.
Scientists
Laura Douma, left, and Heather Somers, Grade 8 students at
Brussels Public School, demonstrated the Greenhouse effect

New handling system
minimizes operator exposure
Cyanamid Canada has introduc
ed new Counter Lock ‘n Loda, a
unique closed handling system
which minimized operator expo
sure to the product.
Jointly developed and patented
by Cyanamid and John Deere after
four years of research and testing,
the Counter Lock ‘n Load system
fits John Deere MaxEmerge and
Max Emerge 2 planters. The new
system's design has a dispensing
valve on a returnable pesticide
package and a receiving valve on
the planter’s hopper lid. When the
two valves are coupled, they then
open automatically to provide a
path through which the pesticide
can flow from the package to the
planter’s hopper. When the valves
are uncoupled, they close automa
tically.
