Last year 34 teams from Goderich competed and organizers are hoping that with representation from the communities outside the town they will have about 50 teams participating. Chairman Bob Morris said based on the support of last year’s challenge and the interest already shown this year, they are confident this time will be even bigger. Teams made up of a minimum of 14 participants, with at least seven men and seven women, 19 years of age or older, compete in a number of events beginning with a blood donor clinic on Wednesday. April 24. The canned food drive event of last year has been expanded to include Canned Creations. This event requires originality, creatis- ity and a touch of humour. Teams will build their creation at the Courthouse Park on Saturday. May 4 to be judged later that day. “We are hoping the event will not only benefit numerous local charities through the donation of canned goods, but will also attract members of the public to come view the creations," said Mr. Morris. The deciding battle of the Chal lenge Cup will put teams against each other on Sunday, June 2. in events of strategy, stamina and sport. This will be held at Goder ich's Agricultural Park. Bounty Hunter bonus points are offered to any teams from last year you encourage new teams to sign. Mr. Morris hopes this will mean a longer line-up this time. Last year 3.026 canned goods were donated to charities, over 170 units of blood were donated to Red Cross and SI.000 was given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. PITCH-IN CANADA! Province tells Lambton, I • ~ Stephen Twp. to negotiate BY FRED GROVES The Minister of Municipal Af fairs wants boundary negotiations involving Stephen Township and the village of Grand Bend to go back to the bargaining table. Thursday morning at Huron County Council, a letter was re ceived from David Cooke request ing that local discussion continues. What this means, according to Stephen reeve Tom Tomes, is that his municipality will now be able to have a voice in the negotiations. “I think he (Cooke) is trying to get more local input before the decision is made,” said Tomes. The Lambton County Boundary Negotiations Committee recently released a report which indicated Grand Bend may be annexing 450 acres of Stephen. Tomes and his council were not in agreement with this recommendation and sent a reply to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. “We had written in our reply that we were still willing to negotiate. Maybe he (Cooke) didn’t like Grand Bend’s reply or Lamb ton County’s report,” said Tomes. Tomes and Stephen never had a say and he feels his municipality will now be heard. He has notified the committee chairman that he wants to meet with both Grand Bend and the committee. “I’ve been in contact with Larry O’Neil and we’ve tentatively set up a meeting and Grand Bend will be involved. That’s what we want,” said Tomes. “We don’t feel the Lambton Boundary Committee.can speak for Grand Bend. We want them at the table.” KEEP CANADA BEAUTIFUL
