Blyth Atoms lose to Hensall in overtime play The Blyth Atoms travelled to Hensall for the fifth and final game of the group semi-finals. This was another super hockey game with great end-to-end action. The Blyth Atoms out-skated Hensall in the first failed to score on a period, but hot Hensall goalie. The play evened out in the second period with Hensall scoring two goals. Blyth came out fired up in the third period tying up the game. Michael Haggitt scored Blyth’s first goal on a pretty passing play assisted by Michael Ansley and Darryl Bromley. Jeff Cowan scored the tying goal 2-2 as he out-skated the Hensall defenceman and ripped a shot over the Hensall goalie with Jeff Ferguson head-manning the puck. Blyth missed some good chances late in this game and this allowed Hensall to come back strong in overtime. Hensall scored three goals in 10 minutes of overtime to win this hard-fought series three games to two. Hensall ended up in first place in the nine team league and Blyth battled this club 12 times, all good games. BLYTH ATOMS IN M1LDMAY The Blyth Atoms travelled to Mildmay last Saturday, March 23 and lost a close hockey game to Tiverton 5-4. Jeff Cowan displaying his speed scored a hat-trick for Blyth and also picked up the Most Valuable Player award for Blyth. Mark “Sparky” Wilson also scored on an end-to-end rush with Darryl Bromley picking up two assists in this game. Shane Burk­ holder did the job in net for Blyth. Early Sunday morning Blyth returned to Mildmay for their next and last game. Blyth lost a well- played 3-2 overtime game. Jeff Cowan scored the game’s first goal, set up by Michael Haggitt and Mark Wilson however, Zurich scored seconds later. Blyth took the lead again late in the second period with Michael Hag­ gitt finishing off a fine passing-play from linemates Darryl Bromley and David Craig. Penalties took their toll on Blyth in this game and with nine seconds left Zurich scored the tying goal forcing sudden victory overtime. Blyth completely outplayed Zurich in overtime doing every­ thing but scoring, but once again this team had no luck and Zurich scored nine minutes into overtime. Michael Haggitt picked up Blyth’s Most Valuable Player award and Scott Bromley had a solid game between the pipes for Blyth. This ends a long season for these young players playing 46 hockey games. There will be a father and son game this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Blyth. From start to finish we do the complete job. Mixed champs The D A. The Ontario Government esta­ blished the Ontario Medal For Good Citizenship in 1973 to recog­ nize and pay tribute to those citizens who make this Province a better place to live through selflessness, humanity and ness. Just who are some of citizens? They are the men and women who care about the plight of the poor: the loneliness of the elderly; the frustrations of the physically and developmentally disabled: the needs of the sick. In short, they are people who quietly go about helping the less-advan- their kind- these taged members of our society. Any Ontario resident may nominated for the award. Nomina­ tions will be evaluated by the Ontario Medal For Good Citizen­ ship Advisory Council and awards will be conferred by the Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Lincoln Alexander. The deadline for nominations is April 15, 1991.
