A young Blyth shooter puts everything into his shot as he beats the Belgrave goaltender In the “D” championship at the Blyth Little Lions Novice tournament Sunday afternoon. Blyth won the game 8-0. Blyth Pee Wees lose BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Pee Wees played two exhibition games last week as they performed their Jekyll and Hyde act by being humiliated by the Mitchell A team 6-1 and then reboudning to dominate Clifford in a spirited contest 6-2. Blyth travelled to Mitchell on Tuesday, March 19 where they lost a snoozer to the Mitchell A team. The teams traded goals in the first period with Brian McNichol scoring for Blyth after a nice solo rush. Greg Toll hit McNichol with a clearing pass at the Blyth blue line and Brian did the rest as he tied the game 1-1. Mitchell jumped into a 3-1 second period lead and iced the game in the third with three unanswered goals as they cruised to a 6-1 win over Blyth. It was a different story in Clifford on Friday, March 22 as Blyth responded with a decent effort in Novice Reps downed by Brussels in “C” final Continued from Page 17 Jamie Black got two goals and one assist, Justin Sauve one goal and one assist and the other goal was by Jeremy Van Amersfoort. Kyle Anderson and Bryce Toll got an assist each and Allan Gibbons played a strong game in net. Over the weekend the Rep team participated in the Blyth Lions Novice Tourney. Their first game was against a very strong Clifford team. They lost by a 9-1 score with Kyle Anderson scoring the lone goal, assisted by Jamie Black. Their next game was against Belgrave. Blyth scored four goals in the first, three in the second and two in the third. Belgrave got their lone goal in the second. Kyle Anderson got three goals and one assist, Chris Carter two goals and one assist, Justin Sauve got two goals, Jonathan Kochis, one goal and a ninth goal was posted, but it’s unknown who got it. Jamie Black got three assists and Bryce Toll and Jeremy Sallows got one apiece. This win put the boys in the “C” final on Sunday, against Brussels. This game proved to be the best game the Reps have played all season. It was a very fast game with a lot of end-to-end play. Allan Gibbons played a great game in net and play in the first period was very even with no one scoring. The Brussels team then tallied two goals in the second period, but Blyth didn't give up and scored two goals late in the third. Jamie Black got the first one, assisted bv Bryce Toll. Then with 19 seconds on the passing their way to a 6-2 win. Jason Rutledge and Peter Craig assisted on the only first period goal as Mike Salverda stuffed in the rebound on a Blyth power play. The floodgates opened in the second as Blyth outscored the home team 4-2. Ryan Chamney slid home a puck that was lying on the goal line after the Clifford goalie couldn’t smother Brian McNichol’s slapshot for a 2-0 lead. Twenty-five seconds later Brian McNichol broke in on a breakaway and tucked in his own rebound for a 3-0 Blyth lead. Jonathan Collins upped the lead to 4-0 as he stepped into the puck three feet inside the Clifford blue line and ripped a power play slap shot that caught the top corner. All good things must come to an end and they quickly did for Blyth as Clifford scored two goals one and a half minutes apart late in the second period to cut Blyth’s lead in 0 Performance you can afford to take home EVENT o/o INTEREST For 12 Months* 7.5% for 24 Mos. 8.5% for 36 Mos. 9.5% for 48 Mos. •Monthly Payments APR Certain terms and conditions apply Program subject to change without notice clock, Bryce Toll tied the game on a pass from Justin Sauve. That put the boys into overtime and a 10 minute sudden death period was played with no one scoring. The boys then had a 1, win 1 in exhibition games half. Blyth scored with 18 seconds left in the period on a two on one break for a 5-2 second period lead. Ryan Chamney and Peter Craig displayed their passing skills all the way down the ice before Peter Craig completed the play with a wrist shot to the short side. The two hooked up again midway through the third as Peter Craig caught Ryan Chamney with a breakaway pass at the Clifford blue line. A couple of dekes later Blyth had a 6-2 lead which stood up the rest of the way. To say the game was a spirited contest would be an understate ment but a fairly disciplined Blyth squad prevailed over an obviously frustrated Clifford team 6-2. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: New Jersey Devils coach Tom McVie: “My wife says I love .hockey more than her. That’s true. But I do love her more than baseball.” shoot-out. Jamie Black, Kyle Anderson and Chris Carter took these shots but Jamie tallied the only goal. Brussels however, scor ed two, so this gave them a 4-3 win. “Congratulations Boys”.
