Steers under 400 lbs. sold from $94 to $105; 400 - 499 lbs., $111.50 to $125.50; 500 - 599 lbs., $110 to $127.50; 600 - 699 lbs., $108 to $125.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $99 to $103.50. Heifers, 300 - 399 lbs. sold from $97 to $103; 400 - 499 lbs., $100 to $119; 500 - 599 lbs., $96 to $113; 600 - 699 lbs., $88 to $102. Pigs under 40 lbs. sold from $96 to $113.85; 41 - 50 lbs., $93 to $94.09; and 51 - 70 lbs., $81.45 to $86.46. * At the Lamb & Goat Sale on March 23, there were 822 lambs and goats on offer. Lambs under 50 lbs., sold from $139 to $172.50; 50 - 79 lbs., $130 to $152.50; 80-109 lbs., $78 to $95. Sheep, all weights sold from $42 to $75. Goats, all weights sold from $185.45 to $300. There will be no sale on Good Friday. According to the Ontario Egg Board, 1990 was a year in which the relative stability and prosperity enjoyed by the province’s egg producers was over-shadowed by a deteriorating situation in the national marketing system for eggs. This has led the Ontario Board to move forward on a proposal for operating a provincial surplus removal program indepen­ dent of the Canadian Egg Market­ ing Agency (CEMA) beginning January 1, 1992.
