Teachers want gov’t action on violence against women

United Church Women of Brussels

report was read by Joyce Jacklin.

out. The afternoon unit made a
quilt for the nursing home.

Graber and Jeannette Boynton.

was sung. Scripture was from
Timothy chapter 2.
The hymn “The Servant Song’’
was sung. Jeannette asked Rev.
Cam McMillan to be guest speaker.
He spoke on organization of United
Church of Canada. Betty thanked *
the minister with a vase of flowers.

Word” was sung. The program for
April will be organized by Isobel
Wheeler and Joan Bernard.

Down” deal with witnessing physi
cal and mental abuse. It suggests

abuse.” “Teachers know they have
a part to play. You can’t go into the
home and change the parents but
with the help of “Thumbs Down”
we can help the kids with ambiva
lent feelings to work through
them,” said Mr. Morton.
While there has, as yet been no
response from Mr. Mulroney re
garding the petition, Mr. Morton
feels that there has been a positive
step taken. "If nothing else it is
making teachers aware of the
existence of “Thumbs Down”. In
the last few years teachers have
been mandated to do a lot of
teaching they have never done
before. This isn’t a mandated
course, but we are in a position to
make a difference and I think we
