Fundrais­ ing calendars for March were given out. The afternoon unit made a quilt for the nursing home. The worship was led by Betty Graber and Jeannette Boynton. Betty lead in the worship. The hymn “Teach me God to Wonder’’ was sung. Scripture was from Timothy chapter 2. The hymn “The Servant Song’’ was sung. Jeannette asked Rev. Cam McMillan to be guest speaker. It suggests resource material like videos that “sensitize students to the oppres­ sive reality of living with a man’s abuse.” “Teachers know they have a part to play. You can’t go into the home and change the parents but with the help of “Thumbs Down” we can help the kids with ambiva­ lent feelings to work through them,” said Mr. Morton. While there has, as yet been no response from Mr. Mulroney re­ garding the petition, Mr. Morton feels that there has been a positive step taken. "If nothing else it is making teachers aware of the existence of “Thumbs Down”. In the last few years teachers have been mandated to do a lot of teaching they have never done before. This isn’t a mandated course, but we are in a position to make a difference and I think we “Violence is an issue that won’t go away,” he added. “I think we can take a first step if parents, particularly mothers, start socializ­ ing their children to be non-aggres- siv&.h’s a matter of saying no to inappropriate behaviour.
