Poetry opens U.C.W
The General meeting of the
Belgrave U.C.W. was held March
21 in the church schoolroom. The
president, Mrs. Gordon Bosman,
welcomed everyone and read a
poem “Where Tulips Flower”. The
U.C.W. purpose was repeated and
the business part of the meeting
took place.
The correspondence included an
invitation to the Blyth U.C.W.
Thankoffering on Sunday evening,
March 24. Following the reading of
a letter of request for funds for
Camp Menesetung it was decided
to donate $50 to the camp. The bale
for Goodwill Industries collected in
the February, was transported to
Exeter by Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Anderson. It was announced that
the annual meeting of Huron-Perth
Presbytery will be held on April 23
at Belgrave with the U.C.W.
responsible for supper in the W.I.
Hall at 6 p.m. and for cookies and
coffee afterwards for the meeting
in the church. Congratulations as
chairperson of Presbytery for the
past year were extended to Mrs.
Bill Coultes.
Members were reminded that
• registration for “Westminister
Weekend” ends May 15 and the
“April Event” will be held at the
Stanley Township Complex on
April 29. The Sunrise Service on
March 31 will be held in Knox
United Church, Belgrave at 7 a.m.
with breakfast to follow. Mrs.
Glenn Coultes presented the bud
get for 1991.
Mrs. Bill Gerth sang two solos,
accompanied by Mrs. George Proc
ter which were very much enjoyed.
Mrs. Jim Hunter showed a video
entitled “Three Days” which pre-

arose. A discussion on the presen
tation followed, led by Mrs. Hun
ter.
Mrs. Clarence Yuill opened the
worship service with a poem “An
Easter Dream”. Then Mrs. Yuill
and Mrs. Dorothy Logan presented
the Easter story as it is told in the
four gospels. The hymn, "Beneath
the cross of Jesus” was sung,
followed by reading Matthew 28:
1-20 and Mark 16: 1-20. “Rejoice
the Lord is King” was sung and
Luke 24: 13-35 and John 21: 1-19
were read followed by prayer. The
offering was received by Mrs. Les
Vincent and Mrs. Bert Johnston.
The benediction was pronounced
by Mrs. Clarence Yuill. A social
time was then enjoyed with the
social committee serving lunch.
Mrs. Donald Whitfield and
daughter Jennifer of Sault Ste.
Marie, spent the weekend of March
24 with her parents Mr. and Mrs.
George Michie and attended the
Memorial Service for their uncle
Mr. Ronald Howey in the Trinity
United Church, Elmira, Saturday,
March 23.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Long of
Atwood visited last Friday evening
with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston.
Mrs. Elizabeth Procter of Bel
grave spent a few days last week at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Zettler and family of RR 4, Walker
ton.
Everyone is invited to attend the
Easter Sunrise Service at Knox
United Church, Sunday 7 a.m.
March 31. Following the service
breakfast will be served. Regular
church service is at 11:15 a.m.
Ten U.C.W. ladies of Knox
United Church attended the Blyth
U.C.W. Thankoffering meeting on
Sunday evening, March 24. The
speaker was Mrs. Verna Burgin
who is the president of the Presby-
terial U.C.W. of Kirkton.

The final pot luck lunch of the
winter season was held on Tues
day, March 19 with a good atten
dance.
The curator convenor, Mrs. Ada
Taylor, presented an interesting
program beginning with informa
tion about the rural mail delivery
from Marnoch which closed in
1913, being transferred to Belgrave
the following year.
She read of some strange laws
which were in effect in some
Ontario municipalities in early
times. Mrs. Mary Hunter showed a
video of part of the program of the
Heritage party held at the East
Wawanosh Public School in Febru
ary. There was music, a spelling
bee, fashion show and speeches,
with George Cull as master of
ceremonies. A history of the
Anderson Hardware Store, prepar
ed by Ross and Barbara Anderson
was given.
Mrs. Mary Coultes was in charge
of the business meeting which
followed. Plans were made to put
on the birthday tea at Callander
Nursing Home, Brussels, on April
25 and for an executive meeting on
April 1. The roll call was answered
by 17 members: “What Heritage
from the past would you like to
leave to your children?”
