PAGE 3. 4H club identifies plants The first meeting of the Blyth 4H Horticulture Club was held on March 20 at the home of Christine Stadelmann. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. Group members were then asked to nominate someone as President, Vice President, Secretary and Press Reporter. The President for the club is Christine Stadelmann; Vice-President, Marie Cronyn; Se­ cretary, Debbie Machan; and Press Reporter, Debbie Machan. Every­ one was then asked to guess the names of several types of plants that Sheron Stadelmann grew in her home. The plants members were able to identify were from an Amaryllis to an Easter and Christ mas cactus. The club members were then asked to bring a flower pot and a plant that they will be able to grow to the next meeting. The meeting was then closed with the 4H motto. The next meeting will be held on March 27 at 7 p.m. in the home of Christine Stadelmann. Londesboro Lions donate money Londesboro and District Lions Club donated nearly $6,000 to area activities during its 1990-91 year the club revealed recently. Largest donation in the $5,835 given out was a $1,000 gift to the Clinton Public Hospital while $500 was given to the Blyth Brownies and Blyth-Londesboro Venturers and $400 paid for a bus to swimming Wessons. Donations of $250 went to Hullett Fireworks, Hullett Minor Ball and Continued on Page 23 Concentrating hard, young players shoot for top scores in the Video Challenge sponsored by the Blyth Optimist Club at Blyth Public School Saturday. Winners of the event will go to the zone championship in Blyth April 14. Large turnout at video challenge The first Blyth Optimist Club Video Challenge drew a large turnout at Blyth Public School on Saturday. Winners and second place fini­ shers in the various categories will go on to the zone competition in Blyth on April 13. In the grade one and two category Tristan Irving was first, Tyler Wilson, second and Jenny Ritchie, third. In grade three and four, Steph­ anie Oliver was first, Adam Blair, second and Joey Sykes, third. In grade five and six, Jeremiah Hamm was first, Russell Rhiel, second and Mark Lewis, third. , In the grade seven and eight category Anthony Wilkinson was first, Jason McDougall, second and Darryl Shannon, third. In the open category Thomas Schroeker was first, Jason Clark, second and Susanne Schultz, third. Blyth.Thankoffering at United People Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Snell visited last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson, Kari and Kurt of London and with Mr. and Mrs. Jim The annual Spring Thankoffering service was held in Blyth United Church on Sunday evening, March 24 wtih the Evening Unit in charge. Emily Phillips very capably con­ ducted the service carrying out the theme “Women of the Bible”. Joan Clark introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Verna Burgin from Kirkton (President of Huron-Perth U.C.W.). In her address Mrs. Burgin used women who had a part in Israel’s history - including Debra, Bethsheba and others, to emphasize that no matter what our job or position, it is important. She was thanked by Susan Howson. The ladies choir, under the direction of Phyllis Boak, favoured all with two lovely numbers, “Be­ neath the Cross of Jesus” and “After”.
