Blyth PeeWees lose to Wallace’s Norman again
Norman conquest
Blyth Pee Wees swarm around their long-time nemesis Todd Norman as he makes a rush on the
Blyth goalie during the final game of the series between Wallace and Blyth Thursday night in
Blyth. Norman scored 15 of the 20 goals Wallace scored and assisted on three more as they took
the best of five series In four games. Eleven of his goals were unassisted.
BY RUSTY BLADES
The Blyth Pee Wees were elimi
nated from further OMHA playoff
action last week as they lost two of
three games to Wallace.
Down one game in the series
Blyth rebounded to tie the series at
home on Monday, February 18 with
a last minute 4-3 victory.
Wallace took an early 2-0 lead
but Blyth tied the game at two with
two late first period goals. With
just over three minutes left in
period one, Ryan Chamney and
Mike Salverda assisted on Brian
McNichol’s goal off of a nice wrist
shot. Thirty seconds later Brian
McNichol was cruising through the
Wallace zone when he unleashed a
screened backhand shot from near
the blueline that found the net.
Brian McNichol completed his
hat-trick five minutes into the
second frame to temporarily give
Blyth the lead. Benjie Hakkers and
Ryan Chamney assisted on the
goal.
Just over one minute later,
however, Wallace’s Todd Norman
scored his third unassisted goal of
the game to tie the game 3-3.
The game remained tied until the
final minute when Blyth notched
the game winner. Peter Craig
passed to Brian McNichol and
Brian and Ryan Chamney broke for
the Wallace net. Brian drew the
defence and goalie to him before
passing to Ryan who easily redirec

and a 2-1 series lead.
Blyth faced elimination as they
hosted game four on Thursday,
February 21.
Blyth gave an honest effort but
were eliminated with a last minute
Wallace goal in a 7-6 loss.
Blyth jumped to an early 3-0 first
period lead as Christopher Howson
scored from Peter Craig; Brad
Anderson scored on a screened

Henry Bos and then Ryan Chamney
found the mark with assists to
Benjie Hakkers and Jon Collins.
Wallace’s Todd Norman tied the

crease.
In an all too familiar scenario,
Wallace’s Todd Norman tied the
game with five and a half minutes
left in the game and then jumped
on a loose puck to score the winner
with only 21 seconds left in the
game.
This 7-6 win gave Wallace the
series, 3 games to 1. Credit should
go to the Blyth Pee Wee’s who
played as a team although they
were unable to stop Wallace’s
resident star Todd Norman. Wal
lace scored 20 goals in the four
game series with Norman scoring
15 goals and assisting on three
others. One telling statistic proving
that Wallace is a one man team is
that 11 of Norman’s 15 goals were
unassisted efforts.
The two games in Blyth were
very entertaining and the many
Blyth fans were treated to some
exciting hockey by both teams.
Blyth now enters their group
playoffs which should get under
way next week.
