Howick came from after the first period to defeat the Brussels team 4-2. Bulls edge Sailors in OT Sunday night the Brussels Bulls faced off against the Goderich Sailors in Jr. C. playoff action. The first period ended scoreless with Goderich out-shooting the Bulls 11 to 8. Scott Thede made some big saves in the first period. Goderich opened the scoring at 14:31 of the second as Daryl Durnin scored with an assist to Richard Bowman. Marty Rutledge tied the score at 12:06 as he scored on a pass from Ron Strome and Brett Long. Richard Bowman gave Goderich the lead at 9:47. Steve Caroll scored a short-handed goal with 34 seconds left to give Goderich a 3-1 Bly th Atoms face Milverton in playoff The Blyth Atoms travelled to Seaforth last Wednesday, Feb. 13 and downed the home club 7-2. The first half of this hockey game was a close checking affair with both club’s scoring one. The second half belonged to Blyth out-scoring the opposition 5 to 1. Mark “Sparky” Wilson led the attack with two goals and two assists with Darryl Bromley scoring a hat-trick. Jeff Cowan and Scott Bromley helped out with a goal and an assist apiece. This game finish­ ed up regular season play for Blyth with 7 wins, 6 losses and three ties in a close league. The Blyth Atoms will now take on the Milverton team in group playoffs. Blyth’s first home game will be Wednesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. in Blyth in what should be a close series. Brussels Sprouts beat Belgrave On Saturday, February 9 the Brussels Sprouts defeated Bel­ grave 8-1. Andy Vanbeek scored at 3:37. Robert Kerr scored with an assist from Nolan Krotz at 9:50. February 16 the Brussels Crusaders opened their playoffs as they played host to the Kincardine Kings in the first round-. The first period was kept score­ less by both team’s respective goalies until there was just under two minutes left in the period when Paul Robinson drew an assist on a goal by Brian Campbell to give Brussels a 1-0 lead after the first period. The second period was seven minutes old when the Crusaders went up 2-0 with Dave Montgom­ ery scoring on a play from Jason Goodall. Kincardine didn’t give in as they scored four straight goals to take a 4-2 lead. The Crusaders came back with a goal of their own to cut the lead to one when Dave Stephenson and Brian Campbell set up Ken Cousins for the score. The Crusaders tied the score at 4-4 just over three minutes into the third as Ken Cousins set up Dave Stephenson for the goal. That however was as close as they got as Kincardine scored four unanswer­ ed goals to take an 8-4 victory and 1-0 lead in the series. Game 2 in the series was played Sunday night in Kincardine. The Kings took an early 2-0 lead in the game before Brussels scored at the half-way mark in the period with Dave Montgomery and Mark Harding drawing assists on a Kevin Deitner goal. Kincardine however, answered back with another goal to take a 3-1 lead after the first period. The Crusaders came out strong in the second as they scored 42 seconds into the period to cut the lead to one when Jeff Espensen and Brian Campbell combined to set up Dave Stephenson for the goal. Kincardine took a three-goal lead as they scored the next two goals. Brussels then cut the lead to two with just over a minute left in the period when Brian Campbell set up Jamie Robinson for the goal. The second period ended with the Kings leading 5-3. The start of the third period saw Kincardine score first to regain their three-goal lead.
