Trail ride
Beautiful sunny skies and warm temperatures added to the
enjoyment of Walton Sports Club’s Poker Rally for about 150
snowmobile enthusiasts on Sunday. Despite the mild
weather the trails were still in good shape for the rally.

a success
The Walton Area Sports Club
held a very successful poker rally
on Sunday, February 3 from the
Walton Hall. The day was bright
and sunny and on the mild side but
a large crowd of faithful snow-
mobilers came out to enjoy the day.
Approximately 396 hands were
sold with about 150 machines going
around the trail.
The top prize of $100 was won by
Brian Hoy of Wingham; second
prize of $75 was won by Brian
McGavin of Walton and third prize
of $50 was won by Paul Kerr of
Blyth.
There were over 200 door prizes
available to be won and most
everybody went home with a prize.
A good day was enjoyed by all.

Mary Humphries has arrived
home from a vacation at St.
Petersberg, Florida. She had ac
companied George and Kim Kruse
and children of Bayfield on the
three-week holiday, reporting the
weather was quite warm and they
were situated near the Gulf.
Walton Women’s Institute noon
luncheon is scheduled for Wednes
day, Feb. 20 at 11:30. This month
turkey will be served. Everyone is
welcome.

Euchre
winners
The were six tables in play at the
Auburn euchre party held at the
Community Centre on Tuesday
evening, January 29.
Prizes went to: high lady, Verna
Hallam; low lady, Nancy Slater;
high man, Harold McClinchey; low
man, Gordon Gross; novelty Hazel
Craig.
Euchre parties are held every
Tuesday evening at the Auburn
Community Centre at 8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome.
Hullett begins
plans for
bridge repair
Hullett Council passed a motion
for the preparation of plans for
repair at Walkerburn Bridge at its
meeting on January 29.
Ken Dunn of B. M. Ross and
Associates has been instructed to
proceed with the plans. Council
also told road superintendent Jim
Johnston to apply for a supplemen
tary allocation for improvements to
the Bridge from the Ministry of
Transportation. Walkerburn
Bridge is located at Cone. 12 and
13, Lot 39.
Mr. Johnston was instructed, as
well, to apply to the Ministry for
funding under the Anti-Recession
Program for road construction at
sideroad 30/31, Cone. 11 and the
Auburn street project.
Council directed Joe Gibson, the
township weed inspector to destroy
noxious weeds or weed seeds in the
prescribed manner on all or parts of
any lot shown on a registered plan
or subdivision. This applies also to
any lots not exceeding 10 acres that
are not shown on such a plan.
A quotation from R. J. Burnside
in the amount of $3,200 plus GST
for engineering services to prepare
site plans for the gravel pits was
accepted. These plans are required
under the new Aggregate Re
sources Act.
Council had no objections to the
zoning by-law amendment for Part
Lot 26, Cone. 8 of McKillop
township.

plans skating party
Rev. Paul Ross conducted the
morning service at Knox United
, Church and Nancy Park was organ
ist.
Rev. Ross gave the call to
worship and prayer of approach.
The hymn “Fairest Lord Jesus"
was sung. Rev. Ross gave the
children’s story, Prayer of Confes
sion and Assurance of Pardon
followed by choral response. The
hymn “All Hail the Power of Jesus’
Name’’ was sung. Rev. Ross read
the scriptures followed by the
hymn “The Church’s One Founda
tion". Rev. Ross’ sermon was
entitled “Step Aside. Please". The
prayer chorus was sung. Rev. Ross

Larry Plaetzer and Greg Park and
dedicated. Closing hymn was
“Jesus Shall Reign". Rev. Ross
pronounced the benediction and
the choral response “Stand up,
Stand up for Jesus" ended the
service.
Senior Youth Group will meet for
skating at the Blyth arena February
10 from 2 to 4 p.m. On Sunday,
February 10 the Sunday School will
be hosting a brunch after church.

preschool free.
