Blyth Novices win, lose Close call Brussels Novice Trevor Wilson works the puck around Blyth goaltender Allan Gibbons during the last few minutes of play at Saturday’s game in Blyth. Brussels put on a strong offensive attack defeating the home team 8-4. On Friday, January 18 the Blyth novices travelled to Clinton for an exhibition game. Play during the game went end to end with both goalies making some good saves. Allan Gibbons did the job for Blyth and helped them to a 4-2 win. Neither team scored in the first period and Clinton’s Scot Kuenzig got the only goal in the second. Blyth came out eager in the third and it paid off. at 7:03 Jamie Black got his first of two goals of the night, Kyle Anderson and Justin Sauve assisted on this one. Fourteen seconds later Chris Carter scored after receiving a pass from Joey Schmidt putting Blyth ahead for the first time in the game. But at 3:02 Clinton managed to tie the game, but Blyth took control after that. Kyle Anderson put Blyth in the lead at 2:14 with some nice passing from Justin Sauve and Jamie Black. Then with 1:32 remaining, Jamie Black got his second of the night, with the help of linemate Kyle Anderson. The boys managed to play well and kept their lead. On January 26 the Brussels team Business came to town expecting to play . another close and exciting game. Blyth’s Jeremy Van Amersfoort opened the scoring with an unassis­ ted goal late in the first, but Brussels rebounded with a goal 27 seconds later. The first period ended in a tie. After 1:46 of play in the second period Blyth’s Jeremy Van Amers­ foort tallied his second of the game, assisted by Chris Carter. Brussels then scored four unanswered goals before the end of the period to go ahead with a 5-2 lead. Early in the third period Chris Carter put one in for Blyth with an assist going to Jeremy Van Amers­ foort, but the visitors tallied two more to make it 7-3. The home team retaliated with another goal by Kyle Anderson, assisted by Jeremy Van Amersfoort and Jona­ than Kochis. But with only 48 seconds left Brussels got another goal to give them an 8-4 win. Blyth was to travel to Belmore Monday night but the score was not available at press time. Their next league game will be played Thurs­ day night, January 31 at 6:45 in Blvth against Stephen Township.
