JAN. 23, 1991 Blyth Festival Singers will be hosting a Ceilidh (kay-lee) at Goderich Township Hall in Holmvesille on Saturday, February 9 at 8 p.m. Ceilidh is a gaelic word for a social gathering or as some Scottish natives say, “A hell of a time with a devil of a bunch”. “There will be dancing, stories ‘A Woman in Mind’ opens at Grand Theatre Patricia Collins as Susan, in “Woman In Mind” by Alan Ayck­ bourn opens January 29, at the Grand Theatre. Bernard Hopkins, Simon Bradbury, Carolyn Hether­ ington, Hardee T. Lineham, Michael Mawson, Geordie Johnson and Marguerite Pigott team toge­ ther to become the real, and fantasized, families of Susan. Dir­ ected by Martha Henry, “Woman In Mind”, set and costumes are designed by Astrid Jason with lighting designed by Louise Guin- and. Awaking to gibberish spoken by the family doctor (Bernard Hop­ kins), Susan (Patricia Collins) is relieved to see her husband Andy (Geordie Johnson), brother Tony (Hardee T. Lineham) and daughter Lucy (Marguerite Pigott) aren’t far away. Unable to control the visits of her dream family and her real family, Susan finds herself becoming involved with both families at the same time. With a whirlwind of activi­ ties, Woman In Mind is a perfect example of the old adage, “Be careful what you ask for; you may get it!” Alan Ayckbourn Britain’s most successful and prolific modem playwright began his theatre career as a stage manager/actor in 1957 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre-in-the- Round in Scarborough, England. From that day forward, Mr. Ayck­ bourn wrote plays for theatre-in- the-round, directed theatre produc­ tions, became a founding member and Associate Director of Stroke- on-Trent (a Victoria Theatre com­ pany), produced radio drama series on the BBC, returned to Scarbor­ ough and became the Artistic Director of The Stephen Joseph Theatre until this present day. The variety night features the talents of the Blyth Festival Sin­ gers, a 40-voice choir with mem­ bers from Belgrave, Belmore, Blyth, Brussels, Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Lucknow, Seaforth, Stratford and Wingham. Beautiful Scottish ballads and traditional melodies will be performed by the choir under the direction of Wade Whittaker-Cumming. Following the concert a buffet dinner will be served.
