Bly th Pee Wees lose rematch BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Legion Pee Wees played two games last week as they beat Hensall 6-2 in league play and lost a close game to Clinton 4-3 in an exhibition encounter. Against Hensall at home on January 14, Christopher Howson opened the scoring for Blyth as he finished off a passing play with Ryan Chamney and Brian McNich- ol. After Hensall tied the game, Brian McNichol gave Blyth the lead again on a power play as he converted a passout from the corner from Ryan Chamney. Henry Bos increased the lead to 3-1 in the final minute of the first period as he slid a long shot along the ice after a set up from Brian McNichol. Blyth scored two more goals in the second frame as first, Shawn Hakkers set up twin brother Benjie who flipped the puck over the fallen goalie and then Brian McNichol found Ryan Chamney alone in the slot and Ryan one-timed the puck behind the opposition goalie before he had a chance to react. Early in the third Shawn Hakkers became the sixth Blyth player to shoptcutN BE WATER SMART. SNOWMOBILES ARE DEAD WEIGHT ON ICE. THE ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY CANADA Ministry of Tounsm and Recreation Ontario Bre\\trS ONTARIO score in the game as Blyth increas ed their lead to 6-1 as Christopher Howson and Benjie Hakkers re corded the assists. Although Hensall closed out the scoring in the final minute, Blyth’s passing was a major contribution in this 6-2 win. Blyth was invited over to Clinton on Saturday, January 19 to help them celebrate Minor Hockey Day in their first match up since the Blyth Silver Stick comeback win. It was another emotional game and, although it was far from a penalty-free game, it was a well- played game complete with good passing, fast skating, good check ing and hard hitting. Blyth scored the only goal of the first period as Henry Bos and Ryan Chamney assisted on Brian Mc- Nichol’s game-opening marker. Clinton tied the game early in the second but Brian McNichol gave Blyth the lead again as he stole the puck at centre ice and drilled home a short-handed, unassisted goal. Clinton tied the game in the final minute of the second and built a 4-2 lead with just under seven minutes left in the game. With five minutes left in the game, Ryan Chamney set up Brian McNichol in the slot as he deked the goalie to bring Blyth to within a goal. This was Brian’s second short-handed goal of the game as he completed his hat-trick. Blyth had their chances the rest of the way but they couldn’t mount a sustained offensive attack as Clinton hung on to shade Blyth 4-3. The team’s regular schedule is completed this week as the playoffs are just around the corner. Everyone enjoyed the father-son bus trip to Kitchener last Friday where they saw the much-heralded Eric Lindros and the Oshawa Generals defeat the Kitchener Rangers 5-2 in O.H.L. action.
