Bulls drop ‘game
of year’ to Barons
The Blyth Atoms played three
hockey games last week and, short
on manpower in all three due to
illness, lost two and won one.
ZURICH 3, BLYTH 1
Monday, Jan. 14 Blyth travelled
to Zurich and lost a close 3-1 game.
This game remained 2-1 for Zurich
late in the third period, when
Zurich scored the insurance goal.
Darryl Bromley tallied Blyth’s lone
goal assisted by Trent Richmond
and Greg Blok. Scott Bromley
played a solid game in net for
Blyth.
Together again
Members of the 1970 Tricounty championship Belgrave Midgets laced on their skates again
urday night to play the 1970 Belgrave WOAA Intermediate champions. The two teams filled
Belgrave arena and raised about $700 to help build a new entrance and dressing rooms for the
3C 6A3.
Older and wiser?
The Belgrave Intermediates team of 1970 was older but wiser (but not wise enough to stay off the
ice at their advanced age) when they took on the Belgrave Midgets Saturday night. The two teams
continued a rivalry started 10 years ago with the first reunion game.
HURON PARK 4, BLYTH 3
Wednesday, Jan. 16 Blyth tra
velled to Huron Park and lost
another close game 4 to 3.
This was a see-saw game with
Blyth coming up short at the end.
Jeff Cowan scored twice in this
game for Blyth. The first one
unassisted and the second goal set
up by Amanda Anderson. Michael
Courtney scored Blyth’s third goal
on a blast, set up by Ronnie
Abel-Rinn. Shane Burkholder play
ed a solid game in net for Blyth, in
this 4-3 loss, a penalty-free game
for Blyth.
BLYTH 6, MITCHELL II 0
The Blyth Atoms got their game
together last Saturday and skated
away with a 6-0 win over Mitchell
II. Darryl Bromley led Blyth’s
attack with a hat-trick with singles
to Michael Courtney, Michael
Haggitt and Jeff Cowan. Greg Blok
led the assisted parade with three;
Ronnie Abel-Rinn with two, singles
going to Amanda Anderson, Jeff
Cowan, Michael Haggitt, and
David Craig. Scott Bromley picked
up the shut-out for Blyth, his
second of the year behind the
strong defence of Mike Ansley,
Greg Blok and Ronnie Abel-Rinn.
Friday night saw the Brussels
Bulls travel to Hanover only to lose
the biggest game of the year.
Hanover scored first at 16:29 as
Joel Lahn scored on a pass from
Stacey Becker. Marty Rutledge
scored at 5:24 to tie the score at one
after 20 minutes.
However, the second period was
all Barons as Bruce Angel scored at
17:37 a power play goal with assists
going to Tracey AlJoe and Bill
Spielmacher. One minute later
Andy Blackburn scored from Kevin
Pollick. Blackburn scored again at
12:52 a power play marker.
The Bulls got one back at 12:30
as Jason Baier scored from Steve
Fritz. Another Hanover power play
tvas converted as Dan Neil scored
on a pass from Pollick and Bender
at 8:42. Brussels’ Corey McKee
scored on a pass from Sammim

Blyth Tykes lose
to Clinton team
January 20 found the Blyth
Tykes in an away game against
Clinton.
Clinton opened the scoring only
50 seconds into the game. Blyth
retaliated a minute later with a goal
by Matt Anderson assisted by
Derek Cook. Kirk Stewart rang a
second goal up assisted, by Derek
Cook and Matt Anderson. The
action went back and forth with
Matt Anderson scoring two unas
sisted goals and Clinton answering
with another four goals.

Sailors at 2 p.m. at B.M. & G.
