LINKLETTER Members of the Wingham Corps of the Salvation Army and many friends in this community were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Captain Borden William Linkletter of Brussels, on Friday, Dec. 28, 1990 at London’s Univer­ sity Hospital. His death occurred at the age of 67 and followed a brief illness. Borden Linkletter was born in Halifax on March 23, 1923, a son of the late James Currie Linkletter and the former Lena Romkey. He received his education at Alexan­ der School in Halifax and, as a young man, began a distinguished military career in the Army. Throughout his career, he earn­ ed many service awards, including the 1939-45 Star; Italy Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal and Clasp; War Medal, 1939-45; United Nations Emergency Force Medal; Canadian Forces’ Decora­ tions and Clasp. He served in the regular Army from 1946 until 1966. He answered the call to serve his church and trained as a Salvation Army officer, attaining the rank of Captain. He came to this district in June of 1983 and retired as the Commanding Officer of the Wing­ ham Corps in June of 1990. On Nov. 29, 1945, Borden Link­ letter and Vera Palethorpe were married in Upper Canard, Nova Scotia. She mourns the separation death has caused and is grateful for the support of their family: Gordon Linkietter of Newcastle, Ontario; Mrs. Major Doreen Speakman of Winnipeg; Bruce Linkletter, Missi­ ssauga; Captain Brian Linkletter of Richmond, B.C.; Wayne Linkletter of Thornhill and Mrs. Lieut. Krista Brown of Fort McMurray, Alberta. Also surviving are 16 grandchild­ ren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Jean Langille of Halifax and one brother, Douglas Linkletter of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his sister, Wilma Doak. Captain Linkletter rested at the McBurney Funeral Home, Wing­ ham, Sunday afternoon and even­ ing, Dec. 30, 1990. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 218, Brussels, of which he was chaplain, conducted a memorial service in the funeral home Sunday evening. Funeral service was held Mon­ day, Dec. 31, at 1:30 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wingham, conducted by Lieut. Col. Clyde Moore, Captain Roy Scott and Lieut. Cal Barber. Pallbearers were Don Morrison, Larry Beer, Bob Hewines, Bill Henderson Jr., Andy Foxton and Vern Hewitt. Special bearers of Captain Linkletter’s cap and medals were Arnold Morrison and Wilbur Hewitt. Tiffany Marshall and Karen Speakman carried floral tributes. Captain Borden Linkletter’s final resting place will be Mount Plea­ sant Cemetery, Toronto. ROBERT A. PEASE Robert A. Pease died at Wing­ ham and District Hospital on January 6, 1991. He was 85. Born in Morris Township, Mr. Pease was the son of the late Elijah and Elizabeth Pease. During his life he was employed at logging and in sawmills. He resided in Mitchell for a time. Never married, Mr. Pease was predeceased by a sister, Irene Pease, and three brothers: Allan, Walter and Malcolm. Two brothers William and Lloyd both of RR 2, Blyth, survive him. A Brussels Oddfellows Lodge service was held at the Beattie-Fal­ coner* Funeral Home, Tasker Cha­ pel, in Blyth on Tuesday evening. Rev. Caroline McAvoy conducted the funeral service the following afternoon at 2 p.m. Interment will take place in the spring at Blyth Union Cemetery. CLARE VEITCH Clare Veitch passed away on Thursday, January 10, 1991 at Listowel and District Hospital. He was in his 84th year. Mr. Veitch was a member of Ayr Masonic Lodge AF & AM and an elder of Knox Presbyterian Church in Cranbrook. He was the loving father of Ross and Ruth Veitch, Listowel; Marie and Pat Adams, South Mountain; and Janet Veitch, London. He will be missed by his grandchildren: Rob and Rich Veitch, Listowel and Maureen, David and Heather Adams, South Mountain. He is survived by his sister Jennie Richie of Paris. Mr. Veitch was predeceased by his wife, the former Jean Hender­ son in 1987. A brother, Melville and a sister Mae Edgar also predeceased him. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Stephen Webb and Rev. Doug Mclnnes at Betts Funeral Home in Brussels. Interment will take place at Brussels Cemetery. In remembrance donations to Brussels Cemetery or Knox Pres­ byterian Church in Cranbrook would be appreciated. HILBERT UNDERWOOD Hilbert Underwood passed away on Sunday, December 23, 1990 at Palmerston and District Hospital in his 91st year. Mr. Underwood was the loving brother of Florence Edwards of London and Norman Hall of Ayl­ mer. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews: Ethelene and Ted Smith of Wroxeter; Bert and Elva Wylie of Clifford and Allan and Marion Wylie of Clifford. Mr. Underwood was predeceased by one brother Alexander Underwood* and two sisters: Nellie Wylie and Elbin Douglas. Funeral service was held at Betts Funeral Home in Gorrie on Friday, December 28. Interment will take place in the spring at Wroxeter Cemetery.
