The Blyth Legion Pee Wees
picked up two lopsided victories to
start the new year as first they
hammered Elma-Logan 11-0 and
then they recorded their second
shut-out in a row by beating
Brussels 8-0.
The team travelled to Monkton
on Thursday, January 3 as they
played their first game in the new
Elma-Logan arena. After a slugg
ish start, Blyth exploded with six
second-period goals on their way to
all-0 whitewash.
Brian McNichol once again lead
the assault with three goals and
three assists. Both Christopher
Howson and Brad Anderson re
corded two goals and three assists.
Jason Rutledge scored one goal
and set up three others while Peter
Craig notched a single goal and
assisted on two more. Mike Salver-
da scored two big goals, and Tim
Cowan and Benjie Hakkers had two
assists each with Shawn Hakkers
recording a single helper.
Disciplined play led to a penalty
free game to start the new year as
January is Penalty Free Sweep
stakes month.
Blyth then hosted Brussels on
January 7 as goaltenders Chris Lee
and Michael de Jong shared their
second shut-out in less than a
week.
Blyth responded with a strong
first period as they scored six goals
on their way to an 8-0 win.
Brian McNichol was flying for
the home team as he made things
look easy while recording another
hat-trick including two exceptional
short-handed efforts. Defenceman
Peter Craig added two goals includ
ing one on an end-to-end solo dash.
Benjie Hakkers scored on a strong
backhand shot and also assisted on
Henry Bos's blueline drive that
found the mark.
Mike Salverda kept his scoring
streak intact as he scored from
deep in the slot. Game assists were
credited to Ryan Chamnev. with
two, Jonathan Collins. Brad Ander
son. Jason Rutledge and Tim
Cowan.
Once again the defence of Craig.
Toll. Collins and Bos stood up to all
Brussels offensive assaults and
they seem to be rounding into
shape as play-off time approaches.
