For com- BREAK ENTER AND THEFT Overnight of December 11 and 12, 1990 a thief broke into the Brussels Variety store and stole Program encourages export opportunities A $1.9 million program to en­ courage increased export opportun­ ities for Ontario’s agriculture and food industry was announced yes­ terday by Ontario Minister of Agriculture and Food Elmer Buchanan. Expanded Development and Growth for Exports (EDGE) encourages industry participants to develop innovative, multi-year pro­ jects in new markets. “EDGE will assist Ontario’s farmers and food industry to identi­ fy, develop and respond to market opportunities,’’ Buchanan said at the Ontario Food Processors Ass- ciation annual meeting. “Through EDGE, my ministry will work with experienced exporters to develop inventive ways to increase export sales over the long term.” EDGE will help businesses and associations develop and imple­ ment long-term export projects. Producers and processors of Ontar­ io agriculture and food products are eligible for the program, as well as organizations representing indus­ try. To quality for EDGE, projects must operate at least two years and generate direct benefits for On­ tario’s agri-food industry. Further, the total project cost must be higher than $72,000 in the first year. Funding will be for a maximum of three years: up to 50 per cent assistance in year one; up to 40 per cent assistance in year two; and up to 30 per cent assistance in year three. The maximum level of funding in each year will be: year one, $100,000; year two, $80,000; and, year three, $60,000. Funding dollars will be applied to the direct cost of a project, which may include salaries for export marketing staff wholly associated with the project; direct operating expenses; training of foreign distri­ butors to develop a marketing infrastructure; and, associated costs for development of a foreign advertising and promotion cam­ paign, excluding space cost. “My ministry has recognized the need to maximize all possible UNICEF cards & gifts available year-round. mittee or board meetings council­ lors will receive $60 and for extra council meetings $75. Council gave approval for Clerk Bev Shaddick to attend the Clerk- Treasurer’s Workshop in March. Clare Vincent was appointed as the voting member to the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) insurance annual meet­ ing.
