Hank den Boer is in -.good condition in Wingham and District Hospital, suffering from first and second degree burns to .his hands, 'feet, arms, legs and chest, Ruby Webb was treated in Wing - ham Hospital; for second degree burns to her right arm. She was released from hospital Saturday. The family left the apartment by the backstairs of the apart- ment through thebake shop to'the south of the building. Mr. den Boer returned to the apartment to get the dog out. He left 'through the living room door to the hall- way . adjoining the . Brown building; -where he met Flor- ence Vickers who lives in an apartment above Greer Elec- tric, .east of the Brown build- ing. She left the building down the backstairs to the south of the building with Mr. den Boet.,and his dog.. Mr. den Boer then return- ed to the apartment again because he thought the fire was only located 'in a living room chair. He grabbed a cushion from the chesterfield and tried to smother the flames in the chair but the .cushion exploded in flames. He grabbed tkey,cushion and carried it out intothe hallway and threw it down the stairs.. He followed down the stairs and kicked it out into the street. -Ruby Webb, who lives the front apartment above Bill's Place, was awakened when Mr. den Boer ran down the hall pounding on the wall, yelling "fire"! She said she went ' to her door and found .the hallway filled with smoke. She left the building by the north stairway which was burning to the street.: Claude Tetreault, who liv- es in the back apartment over-- Hill's ver`Bill's Place, was awakened by Mr. den. Boer's calf fire. He found the hallway: filled with smoke, grabbed a 6,X79 --Pap 33' towel whieh heldgwwed, i1n water and; wrapped around his head.
